Bob Beckel on Fox news asked yesterday, "Why does anyone need an "assault rifle"?
I thought...Why does anyone need a 900 HP muscle car?...they could drive an East German wondercar like the Trabant or a Yaris or some other meager means of transport which aren't so "wasteful and dangerous". Why is there 1st class seating on airliners? Why are there multi CPU, overclocked computers when a plain vanilla Dell would be adequate?
I know you could come up with many more examples like this.
There are many choices we have the privledge to make because we live in this wonderful country. Some of the choices are wasteful, frivolous or dangerous to some. One of the choices we have is the weapon we choose. Whether it's for sport or protection...it's our choice...like many things in our life. You know...."assault weapons" are not Automatic weapons...they are the same mechanically as some hunting rifles with just a change in the stock design...with maybe a pistol grip added. They look more dangerous to these communists in the house and senate so they want to get rid of them. Most don't know a thing about firearms.
We have, and enjoy owning all types of guns because we are Americans and have freedom of choice. It would be wrong to take guns away from good and lawful people. You know the criminals won't give up there's. This is just another lie from the left.
Mine goes to the range every few weeks, gets a cleaning worthy of a fine tool and otherwise sits in the corner. It's never assaulted a thing.
I only have pistols in case I need to defend my rifle.

I haven’t been able to tolerate Gretchen for a long time. She always butts in with a know it all opinion. There is not a person out here that doesn’t feel horrible for the families of the slain. Overly dramatic presentation like Gretchen does is downright scarey.
The only one left on that show that shows an ounce of brains and stability is Steve Doocey. Gretchen needs to be replaced with a cooler head.

This morning, Gretchen was acting so weird. I will be nice on my part by saying that being forced to cover and dwell on this for so many days could take a toll. That is why the 24/7 everyday coverage is unhealthy and is the likely reason they get so many copycat freaks and phone scare kooks coming out of the woodwork.

You’re right about her behavior. This morning, as she was beginning another CT story, she stopped and heaved a big sigh. I guess she was wondering when the wall-to-wall coverage is going to stop.
Steve Doocy seems to be pretty conservative to me. Today, when Gretchen asked why anyone needed an assault rifle, he asked her if she knew how many murders were committed with rifles. She said no, and he said that in 2011, there were 12,000 murders, only 300 of which were done using a rifle.

The 2A is about preventing tyranny from taking hold. Imagine the Founders watching us ask for the right to own a certain weapon.
The risk they run with any AWB is that there are many people out there in this nation who would rather die like a free man than live like a slave.
And it should be noted, this is the very idea the Founding Fathers had in mind.
Is she an actual carbine or did you cut her down? I noticed original carbines are going for much higher prices now (around $300 at the last show).

Because I'm an American and it is my RIGHT to own an "Assault Rifle".
FWIW, the AR15 would not be an effective assault rifle. It has no selector switch that would enable it to go to full auto. You can only get one round per one trigger pull.
The M16 and other assault rifles have full auto capability.
In effect, the AR15 is nothing more than a gas-powered repeating rifle using a .223 round.
The Spencer Repeating Rifle was used in the Civil War (manual repeat, not gas powered) and was an improvement over muzzle loaders.
I’m not a gun guru, so someone feel free to correct me. Prior to being a chaplain, however, I was an enlisted man for 6 years, and I do know my way around an M16 and M60.
Well my weapon question weird. Why can’t I buy a strategic bomber, or an attack helocopter, if I have the money? Or a howitzer artillery cannon? Obviously it is absurb for an average citizen to buy such military equipment. Where does my right to bear arms stop. Does it stop simply with affordability and with what technology the government owes (nuclear, emp)? Or does it stop with actual laws?

Of course we all should have guns in the hands the citizens.
It was really about the types of weapons, but just why are any of them ever banned from purchase?
Thinking about it, things like fighter jets and bombers are owned by private citizens. They are just priced outside the hands of most. Surplus aircraft, tanks, and such are available on the open market with the only restriction being price.
Thats probably true. I never looked into actually buying one. I generally assumed that the U.S. government owned the technology on much of the equipment, so no one get get that stuff.
