I don’t like any modern zombie comedies except for Shaun of the dead and return of the living dead.

Walking dead is good.

The classic, Dawn of the Dead. I also dislike WH but I agree and that was my first thought when I watched Zombieland, he was right for that part.

Also Like Resident Evil original
Armies of Darkness, somewhat Zombie but not completely
Dawn of the dead, both versions.
Land of the Dead
Return of the Night of the Living Dead Original, funny...

Also Matango is an interesting Japanese movie where the characters turn into mushroom people. Not quite zombies, but they are slow and persistent like zombies.

I’m a Walking Dead fan but the scariest one for me is Dawn of the Dead... you can’t outrun them even in your car.

There are some international movies that should make the list. After NOLD, for many years the Italians really owned the genre, to the point that when Romero did DOTD, the Italian director horror Dario Argento edited it, removing the humorous parts, and re-released it as “Zombi” to European audiences.

Some other Euro-zombie and Asian greats:

The Horde (2009) France
Versus (2002) Japan
Cemetery Man (1994) Italy (definitely in my top 10)
Demons and Demons 2 (1985) Italy-Germany
Tokyo Zombie (2005) Japan
City of the Walking Dead (1980) Spanish-Italian
Bio Zombie (1998) China (the Chinese Shaun of the Dead)
The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue (1974) England
Stacy: Attack of the Schoolgirl Zombies (2001) Japan (broke lots of new ground in the zombie genre.)

City of the Living Dead (1980) Italian, but filmed in the US
The Beyond (1981) Italy (in the top 10)
Tombs of the Blind Dead (1972) Portugal (a four film series)
Finger of Doom (1972) Shaw Brothers Hong Kong
G.P. 506 (2008) Korea
Wild Zero (2000) Japan (Zombies and Rock ‘n’ Roll, specifically the Japanese equivalent of The Ramones)

(Importantly, the Japanese have really gone nuts and are making ultraviolent but silly gore movies almost difficult to describe, many of which involve zombies and girls with machine parts.)

"Though not a movie, “Walking Dead” is doubtless the greatest zombie tale around."

I agree. February can't come fast enough.

As far as movies go, I like the remake of "Dawn of the Dead." One of my all-time favorite movie lines is Ving Rhames:" If I put my foot up your a##, would that be your problem?"

You are right and I knew that. He is a 9th cousin. How could I have messed that up?

I’m partial to
JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS and

SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD.
Nice Ray Harryhausen walking skeletons in these two.

The 2004 DOTD remake is more awesome for the DVD news segment with the late Richard Biggs ( Babylon 5’s Dr. Steven Franklin ) as a news reporter covering the zombie outbreak as things go from bad to worse. He died not long after filming it. The piece is just as good as the movie.
