SALT LAKE CITY — Joe Darger and his wife, Vicki, walked through the Capitol shaking hands with lawmakers like any other citizen lobbyist.
What exactly they’re asking their lawmakers to do is a little more unique: decriminalize polygamy.
“The way we are persecuting a particular religious group of people is wrong,” Joe Darger said. “It’s morally wrong, it’s ethically wrong, and we need to look at it. It hasn’t worked for 150 years and we need to change it.”
Darger, a polygamist with three wives, Vicki, Valerie and Alina, is hoping to get lawmakers to start considering the idea of decriminalization. He and Vicki came to the Utah State Capitol carrying copies of a book they wrote about their family, entitled “Love Times Three,” and handed them to lawmakers who stopped to chat with them.
“Right now, it is illegal for me to purport to be married,” Darger told FOX 13. “Simply by me claiming her as my wife, I’m considered a third-degree felon.”
The Darger’s political action comes as a lawsuit is winding its way through U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City that could do the same thing. Reality TV polygamist Kody Brown and his four wives, who star in the cable show “Sister Wives,” are challenging Utah’s ban on polygamy. A federal judge could rule on the case any day now....

The law should be upheld. Marriage exists for serious reasons and is vital to civilization. And one man, one woman is the best way of arranging a society.
Throw the polygamists in jail.

I disagree,It is certainly more natural for a man to have 3 wives than for a man to bend over and have his rectum reamed by another man. Or for women to use toys to masturbate their partbner.

That has nothing to do with anthing here, except that once we left the Christian definition of marriage we inevitably opened up for any other redefinition.

Absolutely. Time to tell the fudge packers there is nothing special about rump ranging. Marriage is either one man and one woman or it isn’t. So if gay “marriage” is in the cards then so is Polygamy and goat humping.
This is why we lose these battles. The marixsts attack our culture and our traditions but few people are willing to address the bigger issues.

What we see is the slippery slope in action. Giving in was and is a mistake and if anything we should be struggling to turn back to the old definition before it’s too late.
Somewhere along the line conservatives got the idea that setting rules for how society is supposed to be is evil and intolerant. It is not. Setting those rules is a fundamental part of having a society.
Make it legal so the extra wives have some legal standing and protection as will the children of the “spiritual unions”. It is a part of their cult and as long as its not abused I see no really good reason to keep it criminal. Its like that fool expedition in Texas a while back. Big crime was marrying off girls who were 13 and 14. They have stopped this and now only do marriages with girls 18. Its not my cup of tea but a poor use of legal effort to chase down these much married Mormon sects. Some seem to like it?

polyamorous rights groups demanding to be able to marry as many of any sex or species (just guessing there) as they want.

What is illegal is trying to say they are all legal “wives” which is stupid.
No changes in the law are needed
