The standard Williamson Turn (used in man overboard situations) takes 10 minutes for a ship to return to the initial point and stop. The turning itself creates drag inte water which slows the vessel.
Ships are not aircraft. The fuel they carry is measured in days enabling them to travel up to 10,000 miles without refueling. The fuel is carried in below waterline tanks which helps maintain stability.

Reminds me of an old ALFRED HITCHCOCK TV plot from around 52 years ago in which a passenger throws himself overboard to try and win some lottery.

“Im astounded that a drunk person with severe ortho injuries can stay afloat in the ocean for a couple hours. That is pretty impressive in my view.”
Yep, I would be thanking God that I survived that at all.
But something smells about this story. I've been on several cruises and it seemed pretty damn difficult to fall overboard unless you climbed the railing or someone pushed hard.

Well she was drunk. Strange things happen sometimes.
But the cruise ships I’ve been on have security cams all over the outside just to record this kind of stuff.

Kirby later went out to the cabin's balcony to get some fresh air, but as she was holding the balcony's wooden banister, she lost her grip and balance and fell overboard.
I smell BS. Yeah she lost her grip and balance while standing on the banister.

Nope. Right now she’s trolling for a lawyer. You can’t turn those boats around real quick. And then to find one person floating in a sea?

2 Long Islands are my limit.. and we always get a balcony.. with a safety harness and strap. ;-]

One of the best is the Williamson Turn to get right back on the same course 180 degrees.
Years ago, I worked on a Swedish tanker, 50,000 tons in ballast, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean a mess girl fell overboard around 10 PM totally black. Captain calmly used the “Williamson Turn” and within an hour she luckily was spotted by our search lights. A lifeboat was manned and she was picked up safely without injury, but in shark area sea.

You can’t fall overboard on a cruise ship, you have to do something stupid to get over the rails.

I went on a cruise with my daughter once and I doubt I will ever go again. I felt like a complete idiot floating on a tiny piece of steel in that huge ocean without a good reason

It's just a blog.
There is no reason to believe ANY of this actually happened.
