Implications Of The Zimmerman Verdict
Political Realities ^ | 07/15/13 | LD Jackson

Posted on 07/15/2013 4:39:50 AM PDT by LD Jackson

By now, we all know George Zimmerman was acquitted of all charges in the death of Trayvon Martin. Many words have already been spoken and written. Some are in favor of the verdict, some are not. I tend to dig my heels into the sand when someone raises racism in this case, as I believe strongly that it does not apply. What I want to share with you today has nothing to do with racism. Instead, I want us to stop and think about something that many of us may have overlooked, myself included.

There are many implications coming out of the trial of George Zimmerman, but there is one that I believe is either being ignored, or simply overlooked. It was brought to my attention by William Gullen, a frequent commenter on Political Realities. I received an email from him last night, sharing his thoughts on the verdict. It so happens that I believe he has a very strong point to make. I may differ with him slightly, but that doesn't mean his thoughts shouldn't be shared. At the very least, it should make for some interesting discussion in the comments. You can find the post and comments he referenced here.

i'm using what 'capital' I may enjoy as a commenter to share my opinion of this case in general; 'cause there seems to be no love for my thoughts on conservative blogs and the progs are equally distracted and over-zealous. so please bear with me dear friend and I'll explain why I feel Mr. Zimmerman's acquittal does not bode well for us in the future.

Mr. Silverfiddle (I miss his presence) cut to the chase last march:

"Based on what I’ve seen so far, Zimmerman was wrong if he indeed went after that kid. That is not “standing your ground,” it is chasing someone down. If his chasing Martin led to the altercation, Zimmerman is no longer blameless and it’s not a case of simple self-defense."

and I added this:

"while i assert my right to defend myself against harm; i would reject the ‘right’ to pursue a fellow citizen, precipitate an altercation, and kill he or she in cold blood…b"

I should have said "and 'through' the action of pursuit " precipitate etc. but I believe the three of us are on common ground so far...

I'm also a firm believer in occam's law and I find it hard to accept that Mr. martin set about confronting Mr. z when he left the convenience that night. conversely; had Mr. z just exited a luxury vehicle and been accosted by Mr. martin, the use of his firearm would be justified, forget about 'stand your ground'. now please understand that all of my reasoning is aside of the 'racial' implications and the subsequent political imbroglio that has ensued. while I am saddened by anyone of us falling in violence; I am by nature self-serving and very protective of my 'rights' and right now there are a lot of folks who think the second should be history; no pun intended. as responsible gun owners, we shouldn't be giving them more ammunition; again, no pun intended. this is where i'm going to ask you to take a short trip with me down the rabbit hole...

all of our law is based on precedent; the court names it 'stare decisis'. let me put my take on the Zimmerman verdict into a future scenario:

You, Mr. Jackson, have just left the local grocery at closing (by the way you live in Florida and it's dark). as you walk to your car you notice another patron (perhaps a woman) has dropped something on her way back to her car. being the person you are you pick it up and follow her, perhaps she has a small child in her grocery cart. perhaps; a month ago she was accosted by a homeless person as she left the store and in an alcoholic stupor he threatened her; perhaps she is carrying a legal firearm 'cause of that incident. perhaps when you catch up with her and you say something she doesn't quite grasp and then you extend your hand to her with the item she dropped, her thought isn't focused on 'your' reality but instead on past experience and the safety of her child. at best you're in the hospital and she's absolved (remember no physical injury is necessary, just the reasonable fear).

this is what I'm worried about Mr. Jackson, and today six jurors paved the way...b

As always, your comments are welcome. I am honestly interested to hear your reactions to what has transpired in Sanford, FL. Does Mr. Gullen have a valid point about the scenario he raised? I am afraid he does.

One last thing. I would ask you to stay tuned for a post that will be published at 12:00 today. Charles Phipps lays out a very good case why he believes Trayvon Martin was, and continues to be, exploited.

Considering it was his duty to keep watch over this neighborhood, and an unfamiliar person was looking into people’s patio doors... he wasn’t ‘chasing’ Martin, he was reporting him to 911.

If you can’t bring facts, STFU.

WHAT, do you suppose, is terror?

We've been terrorized so successfully, we think an innocent act of kindness is an attack.

I refuse to be afraid any more.

NO man has the right to scare me so badly, I want to kill him.

And if he does, I now have more confidence that IF he does, I will, and I will not die or go to prison for it.

Black people don't scare me

The government doesn't scare me as much now as they did Friday.

I am an American ... and I'm a bad mofo !!

This is what liberals do - take a hostile event and then take it out and replace it with a innocent one where the same result occurs...

Like the example of the dropped item and “pursuing” the woman with the child in hopes of returning it...there is an exchange - both physically and verbally - that the
past mugged” woman will see. Like, “Ma’am, you dropped this - I see that you are fearful of me so I’ll place it here and walk away - have a good day.” I’ve done this - I’ve done this in civilian clothes - done it in a state police uniform - in a military uniform - and really doesn’t matter - because at any time - people may be put off on, “why are you following me” scenario — simple exchange of words and conversation.

What was missing in the Zimmerman/Martin exchange was WORDS - there was none - only a physical altercation that was brought on by Martin - not Zimmerman. These types of youths (every community has them) resort with full on physical confrontations — they don’t know how to speak to girls, they are not gentlemen, they don’t do their homework - they have no respect for anyone or anything, they are thugs, bullies, want-a-be gangsters....and their life ends up the way they chose.

This article is no more attempt to try to convince the rest of us to put ourselves in that situation - where we have all been in that situation - to come to a different answer...whatever... yet another liberal loser...

"You extend your hand to her with the item she dropped"

How about "you punch her in the nose and when she falls to the ground you straddle her and slam her skull against the sidewalk."

So now Trayvon was just lending a helping hand to Zimmerman? Sharing his Skittles, perhaps? Please.

“You can’t make this stuff up.”

Actually they can, and they do. And then they call it “analysis.”

Once again it appears that someone is basing their “judgement” on whatever the LSM put out there and facts be damned. Lucky for us that king hussein has called for folks to remain calm in the wake of the verdict. Hello pie hole, STFU. If the jury had come back with a guilty verdict then king hussein would have declared justice was served instead of implying that a murderer walked free. What murderer? Any supposition that the protesters haven’t ratcheted up the tone is because they know deep down that they are wrong? Me neither. Once someone can get the fuse fully lit things may pick up for those shopping for new TVs.

This is pretty stupid. If TM felt threatened he could have gone to the condo he was staying at. The grocery store/woman dropping something scenario is in no way comparable: GZ did not shoot until he was assaulted, the scenario here presented is an unjustified killing by a panic stricken person who has not been assaulted - likely manslaughter.

I’m so sick of the drama. Hopefully, something will pop up today or tomorrow that will catch the fancy of those who seem intent on keeping this in the news.

He was found not guilty - because it was a clear case of self-defense. What part of that don’t these morons understand?

Horrible grammar and worse logic. martin snuck up BEHIND Zim and sucker punched him. Shame on you for perverting the language and twisting the facts to fit the white guilt rationale.
If you want to kill he or kill she, those had better be their names.

In the scenario about approaching the woman who dropped something outside the grocery store, you simply announce “excuse me, it looks like you dropped something...I’ll get that for you”.

Not too hard.

If you’re approaching a stranger in the dark and getting in their personal space, it has always been wise to first announce yourself or your intentions. The Zimmerman trial has nothing to do with that age-old wisdom, except perhaps make it even more obvious.

This is a tangent, but on a talk-show someone suggested that we now have a dialogue on race-relations due to this case (I love how liberals talk). Anyway, the host then asked, “Do you think TM was a racist? The offened guest said, “No,” Then the host asked, “Based on GZ’s history and what went doen that night, do you think GZ is a racist or acted as a racist?” The guest also eventually came around to “No.” Then the host said, and I love this, “Then what you are saying is our national discussion on race should not include anything at all to do with the TM/GZ trial so it would not be included in your ‘National Dialogue.....”

I love logic!!!!

The implication is that the MSM has lost this one.

Since it was beginning to end a media show trial and the MSM once again gratuitously testing its strength and influence... it IS a loss for THEM.

Hell hath no furly like a defeated and frustrated MSM!

Occam's law, summed up, is "the simplest explanation is more likely the correct one".

For leftists, the simplest explanation is ALWAYS racism.

They don’t care. Hispanic guy kills innocent(?) black kid=travesty. Thugs kill innocent(?) black folks in chitown every weekend and it doesn’t look like anybody cares about that. Where’s the rallies for those victims of “gun violence”? Speak up oh benevolent king hussein. It’s you supposed home town. Didiots!

The implications, for the left, are much worse than he’s stating.

The main implication here is that citizens of traditional culture have the right to resist predation by the left and their mascots.
