Sen. Burr: Defunding ObamaCare 'dumbest idea I've ever heard'

Blocking a government funding bill over ObamaCare is "the dumbest idea I've ever heard," Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) said Thursday.

Burr argued stopping ObamaCare's funding is not going to be achievable as long as President Obama is in the White House, and that Republicans risked taking the blame if they forced the goverment to shut down over the issue.

"I think it's the dumbest idea I've ever heard," Burr told journalist Todd Zwilich Thursday. "Listen, as long as Barack Obama is president the Affordable Care Act is gonna be law.

"I think some of these guys need to understand that you shut down the federal government, you better have a specific reason to do it that's achievable," Burr continued. "Defunding the Affordable Care Act is not achievable through shutting down the federal government."

Support is building within the House and Senate GOP for using a continuing resolution to fund the government to take a stand on ObamaCare.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) has been among the loudest voices arguing Republicans should not fund ObamaCare through a government-funding measure.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) is spearheading the effort and has rallied a number of Tea Party Republicans and members of Senate Republican leadership around the proposal.

House Republicans are also putting pressure on their leaders over the issue.

On Wednesday, Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) also expressed opposition to the proposal.

"I think holding the debt limit hostage to any specific thing is probably not the best negotiating place," Blunt said.

“Listen, as long as Barack Obama is president the Affordable Care Act is gonna be law.”

I guess he’s right on board with Benghazi coverup, IRS scandal(s), NSA spying, etc. After all, Elmer Fudd IS the president and most is covered by existing law.

Boy, I wish there were a two party system in this country. Or, as the founders wanted, no political parties.

And for the NSA trolls, FU.

Hey, Burr-head! Are you old enough to remember what percipitated the news photo below?

The house alone cut off funding and, despite a treaty obligation, operations were halted. It had far more serious consequences than defunding ObamaCare. You dumb nimrod.

Yet another Republican country clubber undermining his own party.

It would be amazing if he and the GOP fools like him had this vitriol for the Democrats.

Instead of working within the GOP ranks, he airs the dirty laundry to the media.

I agree. It definitely didn’t help Bob Dole. The country was pissed off about the government shutdown and wasn’t about to vote in a seasoned professional adult to the Presidency.

Meanwhile, Eric Holder- the man who’s supposed to be in charge of enforcing our laws- has announced he’s going to openly defy a SCOTUS ruling, and the RINOs evidently have no problem with that...

Bob Dole came across as a crabby old dude in comparison to a younger, superficially more likable opponent, just like McCain.

The basis of your opposition to a government shudown is your being a government employee, so please stop pretending otherwise

Naps

Look the shutdown was not the reason Bob lost, He sucked as a nominee. The same people who are saying that we can't defund Obama care said we had to take Bob, John and Mitt. They are losers.

Keep reading your emails from the national Rep Committee and you will continue to be told to fight another day. Just like on taxes, budget, health care immigration. LOSER APPROCH

That is not true. I want to win 2014. I guess you don’t.

It’s not true that you’re a government employee, speaking purely to self-interest, lol?

Your posting history indicates otherwise.

Well, you may have a point that the shutdown led to Clinton’s reelection. But the way I see it, the shutdown FORCED Clinton to adopt some of the spending cuts the House wanted. This led to an improved economy and eventually a budget surplus. Clinton immediately took credit for the budget he had been dragged kicking and screaming to. So yes, you’re right, the shutdown gave us 4 more years of Clinton.

We are not talking about government employees. I know you are trying to bring that into the story which is irrelevant. You are such a fraud with your desire to lose 2014 and most likely 2016. I always found you to be a liberal Obama lover. I guess you just want to protect him. Great! Just what we need on FR. People like you are destroying our country.

You misunderstand my point. Because the shutdown worked, the economy improved. Clinton, who is a lot of things but is not dumb, ran as the guy who fixed the economy, even though he fought the budget every step of the way. The Republicans definitely could have run someone a little more promising than Dole, but my point was Clinton would have won anyway.

Yes, he’s a guv employee and has a long history of posting pro government entries on FR, and of demonstrating an abject lack of understanding of the free market forces that pay for all of it, and how government is killing that golden goose.
