Bevin challenges McConnell in pledge to defund Obamacare (put Mr. Owl in a box)

A GOP congressional dispute between tea party lawmakers and other Republicans is rearing its head in Kentucky's Republican Senate primary. Candidate Matt Bevin is challenging U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to join him in signing a pledge to repeal "Obamacare," the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Though Republicans are unified in their opposition to the health care law, the push led by Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) to oppose any budget bill which funds Obamacare could threaten to shut down the government if Congress cannot pass a budget deal by a September 30 deadline.

"Mitch McConnell's rhetoric on defeating Obamacare is nothing but empty promises," Bevin said in a statement. "Obamacare is a disaster and if we can't repeal it, we have a responsibility to the American people to defund it."

McConnell's campaign manager fired back at Bevin.

"When Senator McConnell became the first lawmaker to launch coordinated opposition to Obamacare back in 2009, political opportunist Matt 'Bailout' Bevin was busy racking up tax liens on his business and million dollar New England vacation home," said McConnell campaign manager Jesse Benton. "There isn't a single member of Congress who has fought Obamacare harder or longer than Mitch McConnell and he has repeatedly said if he has the opportunity to defund or repeal the law he will not hesitate."

Yet Bevin insists that McConnell's voting record contradicts his stated opposition because McConnell voted for the 2013 funding bill that contained funding for the law. Bevin also claims that McConnell is working behind the scenes to stymie Lee's defunding proposal.

"I challenge Mitch McConnell to join me in signing the pledge to defund Obamacare. Instead of playing political games, it's time to stand up for the people of Kentucky."

Make McConnell choose between conservatism and the establishment line...and face the consequences of the decision.

Talk is cheap and when it comes to talk McConnell is a big talker.

He faked with a NO vote and then shoved amnesty promotion off on his deputies like Cornyn and Corker with their “security” amendments so he didn’t have to be in the spotlight promoting amnesty like he wanted to.

Mitch Mc Connell is another ruling class Republican elite who believes that he is entitled to rule. As for his “opposition” to obamacare, pure unaldultrated bullshit. The Republican Elites want obamacare as much as Obama does. They want to keep it as a campaign tool to fool the sheep one more time. They have no intentions or desire to do away with it. Mc Connell, Graham, Mc Cain, etal will fight Cruz and Lee tooth and toenail to keep obamacare as it now stands. I mean a knock down drag out bar room brawl type fight. Mc Connell and his cohorts will be biting gouging, pulling hair, kicking all the way. In fact, they, like John McCain, who I despise more than I do Obama if that is possible, because I sold a portion of my soul when I voted for McCain and I made a liar of myself by voting for him. That burden I will carry to my dying day. Obama, I just despise for what he is. I have never voted for him.

Attack him all you want McConnell - the proposition is fairly straight forward: SIGN the pledge to repeal Obamacare or DON’T sign the pladge.

It has NOTHING to do with Bevin or his finances or his vacation home.

Either sign it or don’t. The people of the Commonwealth are watching.

Well, I DO think the McConnell campaign is afraid of him. I got called three times yesterday by them and twice the day before that. Thank goodness for Caller-ID.

McConnell gets no money from me and won’t get my vote either. Both go to Bevin this time around.

What a stupid challenge. Mc Connell can want to vote to defund Obamacare all day, but Harry Reid will never let it come to a vote. The Democrats want Mc Connell out of there so badly, I am beginning to wonder if they will be funding Bevin’s campaign.

“The Democrats want Mc Connell out of there so badly, I am beginning to wonder if they will be funding Bevin’s campaign.”

I doubt it. The republicans can only gain from McConnell’s removal. McConnell is a democrat ally. I believe they would just like to brag about taking out the republcan leader of the senate. I’d prefer the conservatives have the bragging rights.

McConnell’s been there since 1985 and refuses to retire. He SO wants to be majority leader, not to bring the country in a better conservative direction, but just for the power.

The Democrats do not want McConnell out.

That is for people who fall for their crap.

They know if McConnell goes we might get a real leader.

Don’t let them fool you.

I fail to see any actions on the part of Mc Connell where he has thrown in with the Deomcrats. He takes every opportunity to bash Obama and Harry Reid and his votes are consistently conservative. There hasn’t been a hell of a lot he can do in legislation as long as Reid controls the Senate, but because he knows the ins and outs of the Senate rules, he is able to bottle up some of the Democrat priorities. What he needs is a Majority in 2014. I sure hope the Republicans don’t nominate a bunch of losers like they have in the last 2 elections.

McConnell has a history of undermining conervatives or helping democrats. I’ve no doubt that he worked behind the scenes to grease the amnesty bill through the senate, but voting against it to fool his constituents (he voted Aye in 2006). He’s gone along with Harry Reid consistently to increase the power of the Majority Leader (because he wants to be Majority Leader one day, and went along with Obama and Reid to reduce the number of executive postions that need senate approval, thus increasing presidential power to just appoint radicals, etc. McConnell is a democrat enabler.

Bevin challenges McConnell with political ideology and McConnell responds with a personal attack...NICE!

Is there really a difference between a Rino and a liberal?
