Gay Governor Rosario Crocetta Brings Sicilian Mobsters To Their Knees

The toughest guy in Sicily is a gay man.

Nine months ago Rosario Crocetta was elected as Sicily's governor on an anti-Mafia platform, and his fearless campaign against the degenerate mobsters has so impressed an otherwise conservative electorate that his sexuality has become an irrelevancy as reported by Anthony Faiola for The Washington Post:

"'Having Crocetta in Sicily is like having an openly gay man elected governor in Alabama,' said Ivan Scalfarotto, a member of the national parliament and a Milan-based gay rights advocate. 'But the most telling point is that his sexuality became a small detail for voters. This was about what he had done' against the mafia."

Crocetta launched his crusade against the Sicilian Mafia in 2003 upon his election as Mayor of the port city of Gela where he persuaded local businesses not to pay protection money or pizzo to the local mobsters, and in 2009 when elected as a member of the European Parliament called for the creation of an EU Anti-Mafia Committee.

One mob boss who hired a hit man to whack Crocetta was caught on a wiretap calling the gay politician "this queer communist" as previously reported by Tom Kington for The Guardian.

The homophobic slurs from the wise guys hardly ruffle Crocetta's feathers. He contends "that a surprising number of members of Cosa Nostra are themselves gay," and quips "the idea that the mafia is all church, home and shotguns makes me laugh." Indeed, Palermo anti-Mafia magistrate Antonio Ingroia "has said he believes there are a number of gay bosses" but "it remains a taboo since they are scared of being ejected from the mob."

Crocetta said his election victory as Sicily's governor means "the Mafia can pack its bags" as then reported by Michael Day for The Independent.

I don’t think this guy is going to be around too much longer.

He contends "that a surprising number of members of Cosa Nostra are themselves gay,"

I see an opportunity, here ... if this fellow is really serious about fighting the mob.

The headline was clearly provided to provide jokes.

Because the article doesn’t back up the assertion of the headline. The article notes that he’s been in office for nine months, but makes no mention of the progress he’s made towards getting rid of the mob since being elected governor.

Instead the article goes off on a tangent about how mob leaders might be secretly gay.

New math...Gay = Good; Mobsters = Bad; Gay Mobsters = Great because we say so!

Poor comparison, otherwise Sicily would not have elected him.
