Welfare Pays Way More than Minimum Wage

In a shocking development that actually isn't all that shocking, a report has been released that shows welfare pays more than working a minimum wage job. According to the study by the Cato Institute, getting welfare benefits outstrips what a person can earn working.

In 35 states, welfare recipients get more in benefits than they would working a minimum wage job, which pays $7.25 an hour. In 13 states, welfare benefits equate to a whopping $15 an hour. (Must be nice, eh?) The Cato Institute's study notes that the dollar value of welfare benefits is greater as that it is tax-free. In nine states, the average welfare is higher than a first-year teacher's salary. In the six states that have the most generous benefits, the outlay is higher than a computer programmer's entry-level salary.

What does this mean and what's the impact for the country? Well, the result is that such high benefits is an incredible incentive not to work. Why go through the hassle of looking for a entry-level job and then working hard to move up the ladder when you can earn just as much money, if not more, by just sitting a home with Big Government paying the bills? It's just human nature to take the path of least resistance. The result is less and less people are actively working for work and more people become increasingly dependent upon government. We all know that such a situation is unsustainable because working Americans have to pay the bills. The more people go on welfare, the greater the costs, which will have to be squeezed from working Americans through higher taxes. Taxpayers will become more incensed over taxation and either cut back their earnings to lower their tax burden or give up entirely and get on the welfare gravy train, which results in a higher burden being placed upon an ever-shrinking pool of taxpayers.

Another aspect of this situation we must ask ourselves is why? The answer is simple: control. The increase of the welfare state is deliberate and planned. The goal is to get people totally dependent upon the government for their every need. Progressive liberals know that welfare people are not going to vote for those who preach individual responsibility and take away their "free government money" from them. Thus the noose slowly tightens around our country and our character as freedom and liberty slowly wither and die. Once you're dependent upon the government for everything, you have no choices left to you. You've traded in your citizenship for the status of a serf or slave.

We also have to vigorously fight the notion that minimum wage should be a living wage. Minimum wage jobs are designed for young people getting their feet wet in the workplace, gaining practical experience, and for older people looking to earn some extra money on the side. Remember that only 2.6 percent of full-time workers are actually poor and that people move up the economic ladder with some work experience. Yet Obama and his progressive liberal allies always press for a higher minimum wage. The result is that unskilled people are pushed out of the workplace altogether as the economy falters and they're forced to move onto welfare. Good for big government statists, but bad for the human soul.

Entitlements won the election for Baraq, and will do so for a Dem in 2016 unless the markets choke on the endless stream of Baraqqi/Bernanke/Lew minibucks.

What would actually happen if all of us earners & taxpayers just quit our jobs & all went to the welfare office???????

I know it won’t happen because we have morals, ethics, and believe in being a strong member of our community. Although I do have fantasies of being a drooling junkfood eating person watching the soaps all day & taking long naps.

It becomes more scandalous when you consider that in many cases the people providing the subsidy are making less than those subsidized. For example, the remunerative cost of Section 8 housing in some communities is as much as 250% of the average mortgage, so homeowners are effectively paying people who destroy their neighborhoods to live in better homes than they themselves could afford.

In the instant example this is also true. People making minimum wage are probably getting all of their Federal taxes back, but they won't have their FICA taxes refunded (and will probably see little, it any, of it come back to them) yet because FICA goes into the general revenue, as long as Social Security is "in surplus" at least some of the money is being paid to these deadbeats, again, so they can live a better lifestyle than some of the people paying for them.

[ We could fix their asses. Quit working.

These people are getting scary. You would think the hate would be less now.

It just gets worse. ]

Quit Working....

Do that too, but also do this:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2957570/posts

Makers shouldn’t become Non-Makers, they should become “Super Takers” and “Robin Hoods” Take from the state and give to the victims of the state.

Sign up your dog for EBT, take that food and use it to prepare... for the worst...

The Takers will just use their EBTs and whatnot for junk food, they are the untimate grasshoppers, we need to become stockpiling ants and use the tools the corrupt system has put into place to help both accelerate the collapse as well as prepare for it...

The Junk Food Takers will rue the day they pissed off the Working Ants...

Atlas Shouldn’t Shrug, Atlas should get even!

If an army of dumbed down leeches takes 50 years to take down a system and collapse it...

Imagine what a group of producers who are pissed off and know hard work and are extremely motivated can do in 4 short years!

This election has proven to me that the system is dead and since we cannot pull the plug on the welfare state which is locked up in the next room, the next best thing to unplugging it is not to stop paying the electricity bill (”going galt”) because they can always borrow from other countries/our kids futures etc...

No, the solution is to “Poll Vault” over their heads and start plugging in as many hair dryers, space heaters, and microwaves into the circuit until we trip the damned breaker and then when they come screaming to us we position ourselves as the breaker box behind their backs and let them know we will only reset it once they unplug their damned stuff.

“Going Galt” WILL ONLY WORK ON A SYSTEM THAT HAS CURRENCY THAT IS BACKED BY SOMETHING OF VALUE!!!

The leeches they count on to vote for them by feeding scraps are too damned lazy collapse the system faster than the left has already accounted for in their long term plans...

Imagine an army of motivated happy warriors out there gleefully getting government goodies and then shipping them to areas where the government has ruined people lives like say “coal country” and calling it redistribution of justice.

The left’s puppet people are too damned lazy and incompetent to even collapse the system worth a damn and that is saying a LOT!

Welfare payments, sometimes known as “the dole”, were once so pitifully low, as to make even the most meager of wages look attractive. The “minimum wage” scam has been used as a whipsaw to gradually bump the scale paid on welfare ever upward, as persons at the very low end of the wage scale had to be supplemented with various kinds of assistance.

In the scheme of things, the wants that individuals have, can somehow change, in their minds, to “needs”. And “needs” have a way of expanding by a nearly infinite amount, into a level of living that cannot, by any stretch of the imagination, be termed “poverty”.

But poverty is not a state of economic deprivation, it is a state of mind. No matter how well the wants and “needs” are satiated, there is an attitude of mind that keeps asking, “But what have you done for me lately?”

Gratitude is an emotional swamp, and one with which most people are uneasy. There is a law of diminishing returns with this paltry little supply of gratitude, and it is soon exhausted altogether. Just try to stop feeding that squirrel that hangs around your bird feeder. Damned tree rats will ATTACK you.

We have produced a huge tribe of tree rats.

You'd be means-tested. No home, no real savings before they started to fund you. And you'd probably wind up in a crappy neighborhood.

Which is why they want to increase minimum wage so then they can increase the welfare benefits to be on par with that. Soon welfare recipients WILL BE the middle class.

Soon welfare recipients WILL BE the middle class.

Actually people getting welfare in Hawaii already are getting the equivalent of $60,590 per year according to the same study. This is “167 percent of the median salary in the state, which is only $36,275.” Welfare recipients already are part of the middle class in Hawaii.
