Assad says a Vietnam scenario ‘awaits the United States in Syria’

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad warned the United States on Monday, saying Washington will have to deal with another Vietnam scenario if it chooses to militarily intervene in the conflict-ravaged country after allegations that his regime has used chemical weapons in a Damascus suburb attack last week.

“Failure awaits the United States as in all previous wars it has unleashed, starting with Vietnam and up to the present day,” Reuters quoted Assad as saying in an interview published in a Russian newspaper on Monday.

While denying that the Syrian forces have used chemical weapons in Ghouta where hundreds of civilians were reportedly killed, he said Washington will be defeated if it intervened in his country.

“Would any state use chemicals or any other weapons of mass destruction in a place where its own forces are concentrated? That would go against elementary logic,” he told the Russian newspaper Izvestia.

Russia, Assad’s most powerful international ally and main arms supplier, said that rebels may have been behind the chemical attack and not the Syrian regime.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said any intervention in Syria without a U.N. Security Council resolution would be a grave violation of international law.

When you look at the photo of Assad, the man looks relatively relaxed. It's as if he anxiously awaits to launch his counter-attack against the US. I wonder how many sleeper terrorist cells are in the US waiting to push their suicide bomb buttons?

Probably not many. That’s more a Sunni thing. The Alawites aren’t even high on the nutjob scale of the Shias.

He’s probably relaxed because if the US does launch an invasion (a few cruise missiles will have no effect), he has a nice vacation getaway in Iran waiting for him as we pour troops into a meat grinder.

I can’t say I disagree with him. Especially in light of the total mismanagement and military ignorance of the Queer-in-Chief.

Isn’t that what Saddam said?

I heard that in 1990 during Desert Storm. Someone remind me how that turned out.

We seem to be in a ‘Vietnam’ scenario in Afghanistan as it is. Obama wouldn’t hesitate to put our troops in another one. What better way to destroy our military ... one of his objectives.

The surface ships and the subs will mow down anything they want to without a single American boot on the ground over there. The threat of terrorism will be made and they may try and attack Israel with rockets. Israel will turn them into a patch of molten glass if they get too stupid. The missile defense system that now protects Israel is very effective. What do the rest of the countries over there have to protect themselves from Israeli rockets, missiles, and aircraft??? They can get on their knees and pray. Won't work but that is all they have.

He is probably right.

As all of our panty-waist liberals amass on the Washington Mall, and our new rules of engagement for our military tie the soldier’s hands behind their backs, it could wind up in another stalemate.

Until US public opinion and the feckless Democrats in Congress declare a withdrawal date, regardless of what is going on the battlefield.

We’d best keep or boys and equipment in the neighborhood though, because by that time the Iranian nukes will drag the world into another horrific confrontation!

“Someone remind me how that turned out.”

Just a reminder. The US pulled out about 1000 miles short.

This nation no longer has the will to win. A stalemate, a draw or an armisticeis "good enogh". Now we are going to do it again. May God watch over our warriors and have mercy on the rest of us.

You know, people talk about the danger of Iran, Pakistan, India and North Korea having nuclear weapons, and it is dangerous. But Israel belongs to the big boy’s club, along with the USA, China, Russia, France and Britain. Israel has thermonuclear weapons.

I understand we have 360+ cruise missiles off shore we can launch. Assad only needs a dozen or so ship killing missiles as a counter.

What happens when a US ship is sunk with a couple of thousand lives? All because Obama has an ego problem?

this war is about two things:

1. the qatar to turkey natural gas pipeline that needs completed via syria

2. the international bankers/rothchilds don’t have control of finances in syria, just like libya, so they will take them out to do so http://www.activistpost.com/2012/09/state-owned-central-banks-are-real.html

understood. (but just for the fun of a light little quibble, can you FAIL if you haven't even identified where you hoped to get to? "Cat: Where are you going? Alice: Which way should I go? Cat: That depends on where you are going. Alice: I don’t know. Cat: Then it doesn’t matter which way you go.” ― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland In brief, he can't fail....he can proclaim victory no matter what outcome... so long as he never told anyone where he hoped to get to

Alawites follow the Twelver school of Shiite Islam who are waiting for the Imam Mahdi who they believe will conquer the whole world for Islam.

What bothers me is that this reminds me of what happened in Bosnia.

More specifically, is that the incidences of Muslim forces attacking "friendly targets", or shooting Muslim civilians, in order to blame the Serbs, were not uncommon.

This includes the infamous breadline marketplace massacres in Sarajevo, in 1992, 1994, and 1995. In all three cases UN internal investigations revealed that Bosnian Muslims were responsible.
