Great story. Another forum I frequent, Shotgun World, a member had acquired a Browning A5 shotgun that was customized and the name “Boudinot”, and by serial number was from the mid-40’s. We did research and discovered that an American officer of that name was involved in the liberation of the FN factory in Belgium where these guns were produced. We even found pictures of one of the senior staff working on a gun with an American officer in the background, the picture being taken while the city was under V-1 “Buzz bomb” attack.
Eventually, we tracked down the family and found out that the gun was sold due to hard times after the officer died. The owner gave the gun back to the family and for a time it was displayed at an Army base museum near their home.
