Our family is heavily involved in FIRST Robotics. I have a favor to ask. Up Next- Team 3528 made a video and entered it in the Rockwell Automation "Engineering Our Future" video contest describing what we would engineer to help change the world. They’re giving away $10,000 in team grants to use on future projects. It's all based on the number of votes, so we need to get as many people to vote between now and November 29. They allow you to vote once every 24 hours, so I’d appreciate if you could vote as many days as possible.
In our video, we have shared about our Hero Project - a partnership we have with DAV and Wounded Warriors Family Support to engineer devices to help our disabled vets live independent lives.

Oh, I know. We’ve been warned. I’m looking at all these weekend classes and volunteer days and ‘get-to-know-each-other’ parties as a warm up for January. Thankfully we do not live far from the college. It will make picking him up on those bitter cold nights so much more tolerable.
I guess our team made it to World’s the past two years, too, but I have no idea what to expect. I’m just so excited for him! He’s on his computer all the time trying to learn more about coding. He’s like a sponge and is just soaking it all in.
The six week build time ends right around my anniversary, too. I’m guessing the hubster and I will not be enjoying a peaceful evening out without the kids. Ha!
We just received this email. They are resetting the votes and starting over. There was a glitch that allowed a group to gain more than 15K votes overnight. Here is what the email said and please remember to vote! Thanks again!

It was at 1073 just now when I went to vote. Thank you so much for your vote! I don’t think we’re going to win this but it’s still a good exercise for the kids. We’ll have to find other grants or other businesses to support us. This is hard work!! :o)

Hi! I wanted to update all of you that helped vote for our team last fall. Although we didn’t win this grant, we did make it to the Championship in St. Louis! We just finished the KC Regionals and our little homeschool team won the Regional Chairman’s Award, the most prestigious award at FIRST. It honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST. Thanks!! They’ve been to World before, ranked 16th! However, this is my son’s first year. It’s all new to us so we’re incredibly excited. He hasn’t been able to help on the Hero Project yet since he is a newbie but we’ll get to do a lot more next year!
I don’t consider myself a HTML maven, but I have picked up a few things over my years of FReeping. First, you should know that automatic link creation only occurs when there is no HTML code in your reply.<a href=For example, http://goo.gl/KSMd2H doesn’t automatically produce a link in this reply because I have used HTML to produce those italics in these last two sentences. Also note that because I used HTML for italics, I had to use HTML to create the paragraph break above. All in all, I don’t usually use the auto generation of links because I like to format my posts, and that requires HTML.
When you use HTML to make a link, you can create a more human-friendly label for it instead of the often-times gibberish names for the actual address the computer uses to link to the file you want. The HTML for a link is as follows:

. . . which I tested, and found to work. Obviously when you make a link of your own, you have to use the correct, exact address to the link you wish to direct the reader’s computer to. But you are free to improvise in defining the label you want the reader to see.
That’s great. Your son will have a blast. Our regional is 2 weeks before worlds. Not much prep time. We’ve won Rookie All Star and Engineering Ecxellence. Hoping for Chairman’s this year. Not sure how competitive our robot is this year. Very little testing.
I’m not looking forward to the 19 hour drive. Nobody else likes pulling a trailer so I’m the key driver.
I appreciate your attempt to help me with making links active. All I can say is that you lost me after the first sentence. My homeschooled son was able to write the code for their robot IN SPITE of me. I had absolutely NOTHING to do with it! His brain does not tick the same way mine does. My husband and I used to call him our freak of nature.
I rarely post articles. When I do, I am very grateful for the FReepers that come along behind me and fix the mistakes I’ve made! So again, honestly, thank you for trying but understanding what you wrote is just not something that will happen for me in this lifetime. The few brain cells I have firing after taking care of my kids are not enough to focus on something like this!
What regional are you attending? We’re going to Oklahoma in a couple of weeks. That was our back up plan! Our robot is pretty good but we were completely mauled by a couple of them. You can definitely see a difference in robots with lower/higher funding. There were two robots that almost brought tears to my eyes because of their beauty alone! LOL! We’re not there yet! Very inspiring, though!

We’re at the Chesapeake regional in MD.
I think a lot of the variance comes from adult engineer built to true student built machines. We believe in student led. I barely touched a tool all season.
The worst drive was in 2012. Strong headwind almost the entire way. Our other van driver behind me told me a couple times he was surprised I was able to stay in my lane
