Medicare is Seizing Estates of anyone over 55.
Michael Armstrong's blog ^ | November 13, 2013 | Glen Downs

Posted on 11/13/2013 3:31:42 PM PST by Vince Ferrer

“So here’s the deal: since 1993 there has been a federal law requiring states to recover at least some of the costs of Medicaid-covered medical care for anyone 55 years old and up, from the estates of those covered. States enforce this law, with their own laws and policies added in, differently in every state. But the general principle is there. Up until now the usual consequence has been things like this: Medicaid puts a lien on the house of someone in a nursing facility who has run out of money, and after they die, the heirs find they have to buy the house back from the state if they want it.

We haven’t had lots of people younger than 65 on Medicaid, because in most states simply earning less than the Federal Poverty Level did not qualify one for Medicaid.

And we haven’t had many people with lots of assets on Medicaid, because in most places you have to have less than around $2400 to your name before Medicaid will cover you. You can keep your house and your car, but Medicaid reserves the right to put liens on them and take them when you die.

But now we have the Affordable Care Act, and its expectation that everyone in the lower tier of income will end up in the Medicaid system. To accomplish this, they have dropped the asset test. So now we will have lots of people ages 55-64, who have assets but not a lot of income right now, for whatever reason, on Medicaid.

The kicker of it is, if you make the right amount to qualify for a subsidized health insurance plan, your costs are going to be shared and subsidized by the government. But if you go on Medicaid, you owe the entire amount that Medicaid spends on you from the day you turn 55.”

Actually, upon review...

No. You didn’t want to “explain” anything to anyone.

You wanted to call in a mob to beat someone up.

That kind of makes you a pussy.

Do you also do Twitter flash mobs to rip off stores?

Medicare is paid for when working and paying for Social Security. Medicare costs $105 per month...after having paid for it during working years.

Medicaid is for low income people. That's why the article said that some people have low income but have estates...that are taken after the death of the recipient to reimburse the gov't.

I think!

AS always humaboner attacks people here for no reason. He is a milley ball wrecking crew to this site. A dog thinking he has bite because he tips the jag off jar for a bone.

aw, he's just misunderstood. and mis-underestimated. and mis- under-appreciated. and...well, you get the idea.

I remember the good 'ol days...before the new & improved (with even moRE humilityTM) version.

Used to blam-blam rock n'roll...with a bit of "soul"

Now why he maybe not much like-ey Sarah Palin, if that is actually the case...I can only guess at.

I like her -- but not all is perfect, for some portion of the *star power* aspect has been successfully characterized in the media, as much a weakness of the "our Sarah" sentiment among her fans [raises hand] than anything else.

She's portrayed as "dumb", as are her supporters portrayed. I don't believe she is -- but how "smart" does anyone need to be, anyway? as long as they can be difficult for 'operators' to fool...

What we need is wisdom. Wonkish policy considerations are secondary. Where there is no vision, the people perish.

But to the enemedia --- I'm a hick, you're a hick, all of us are hic-hics --- or so they love to portray conservatives as being...

That said --- I do wonder. What if the Hildabeast does run? Who would successfully be able to run against her? Chris Christie???

So what's the diff? We can be all but guaranteed to lose, or gamble it all with little actual "extra" risk. So why not let her try, if she's so disposed? But I'm getting ahead of things...or am I?

This is a thread-hijack, I admit...so how to properly build and collate case files as to DemoRat crime against the nation? How to seize the narrative from them?

Anybody gotta plan?

At least I don't have to call in a gang to do it.

I’ve just been over here munching popcorn, but I’ve always wanted to be on a posse. Can I be te first to sign up for yours?

I love following the lead of a strong woman. But tell me - will there be principles involved? Or can I just be an all-purpose attack dog?

And most importantly are there refreshments after? I like those big table length sandwiches that take three people to carry in and two inches is like a full meal.

And Kool-Aid.

Lotsa Kool-Aid.

But tell me - will there be principles involved? Principles? Now would we be a true posse if we had principles?

I am considering offering free beer for my posse though. Drunken posses are much more effective.
