These events inspire geology buffs AND space buffs alike, as it’s been surmised that moon orbit, sun activity, and geologic activity are somehow linked. I would absolutely suspect that more events are coming. We’re all floating on an ocean of magma. It’s all about where the next fissure opens up.

Earthquakes are way up. I expect the increased number of volcanoes directly related to the increase in earthquakes. And remember for every surface volcano, there are several more submarine volcanoes erupting. Seems some warming of the oceans and seas would result from those. Warmer seas means more moisture; more moisture in the atmosphere means more snowfall; more snow on the ground means even more cooling. This added to the ash and SO2 released by surface volcanoes leads to lower global temperatures. Then there is the decreased activity of the sun...

Let’s be careful about speculating too much into this.

Everyone here rightfully claims that the global warming/climate change fanatics are trying to predict too much from limited data... We haven’t been monitoring temperatures so precisely as we’ve only just had quality instruments for about 100 years. Add to that that broadly speaking, tree rings and ice cores show that temperatures were actually warmer in the past during the early Holocene...

-How long have we been able to monitor the entire Earth on a minute/hour/daily basis for global volcanic activity?

—Given the short time we’ve been able to do so, how do we know if this is not a more common phenomenon?

-Volcanism in the past has been much more massive, and we have the geological evidence to confirm that, such as the Deccan and Siberian formations of thousands of square miles of lava flows.

-How do we quantify the amount of volcanism per time period— Hour? Day? Week? Month? Year?

OK. Now back to your regularly scheduled running around and screaming, “We’re all going to die!”

An area in Texas has had six small earthquakes in the past week. They are of the opinion that is due to fracking. Never had a bunch like that before. Wonder if New Madrid is about to blow?
