Dispelling Myths: The Case for Immigration Reform [Enjoy your made-in-America ZOT, troll]
Red Dirt Report ^ | 12/27/2013 | Brian Woodward

Posted on 12/27/2013 11:24:17 AM PST by honestabe010

In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senate’s immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...

Highlights from Article:

- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”

- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.

- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.

- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.

- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.

- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, “The number of jobs in the United States is not static. It’s fluid, which is how we want it to be.”

Sure, next time we’re there. I’ll check the library clearance shelves, too.

I still need to send you the paperdoll book and the t-shirt!

I have the first five Percy Jackson books, but I have no clue what the sixth book is. Is it the Sea of Monsters? I want to read the books in sequence, as they are a much better read.

Eventually, I’ll get all the movies, just as I will get all the Harry Potter movies. But for now, the Percy Jackson books are what I have. I think it’s time to read them again! LOL!

The afghan was fun to make, as I found a variegated yarn that had chocolate, turquoise and beige that softened the stark contrast of the turquoise and chocolate.

eBooks don’t take up a lot of shelf space. ;-)

That’s for sure! I’m slowly replacing my hardbound (not too important) books with ebooks, just because I’m running out of storage space. I have another bookcase (7-shelf) but it is still outside, waiting for wallspace.

I have 8 crates of books in storage that I would love to have here, if nothing else, just to look at...books are such wonderful eye candy in so many ways! Brain candy, too!

Thanks! See? I didn’t know they had made the second movie and it’s been at least three years since I read the first five books, so I don’t feel too embarrassed!

I need to get a life!

5 book cases full and working on a sixth. Ana and Pete both have their own book cases in their rooms.

I’m getting kicked out of my “man cave” in the lower level of our house and pushed out into the garage. Need to insulate, sheetrock, and heat the garage as a “new” man cave. Ana then moves into the old cave, Pete moves over into hers, and Grace gets Pete’s. At which point in time, Zon and I will have fully reclaimed the Master suite from it’s nursery duty.

Game on... ;-)

Planning a 4th child, are you? Good for you! We need more Norsepersons!

I still have Kathleen in my closet, but fortunately, she's a heavy sleeper. If (IF!!!!) Bill and Tom both go away to college in the fall, I'll move Kathleen and Sally into Bill and Tom's room and let Elen have her own room for a while, except for holidays.

The four little boys are doing okay in their room; it's bigger than the other bedrooms.

Er... No. Had the plumbing for that function disconnected last year.

If we’d had a different distibution of X and Y chromo... We could have doubled them up.

The Norns had different ideas I guess... :-)

I move too much to save too many books, but it’s not because I want to. Now, however, I suspect I will be staying put.

Still, I trade books a lot and donate a lot. I’m boxing up a bunch to send to one of my great nieces who has a voracious appetite for books...she can’t understand why, and I tried to explain it is because of her Grandpa (my brother) who was raised with a LARGE library in the old homestead.

They will go out on Tuesday, next week, since that coincides with payday! ;o]

Don’t forget we need to raise the minimum wage so business will have a bigger incentive to use cheap illegal labor.

I hate our retarded government overlords...you can’t 1) propose raising minimum wages and 2) wink and ignore illegals being hired.
