Full Disclosure: I'm a Texas A&M Graduate...
When Duke kicked the onside kick late in the second half, I was telling my friends I watched the game with that that move was a grave strategic mistake not only because it was bad karma but because it would rally the Aggies.
I know that you can't rule Johnny Football out and any way to pad the score is fair. Yeah. Yeah. But. You don't kick a dog when it's down. Duke just needed to play efficient football from that point forward to win the game.
The LAST thing that Duke needed was to give the Aggies a reason to fight. By rubbing their lead in the Aggies faces, Duke gave them a reason to rally. The 2nd half speaks to the really.
Karma's a witch.
I wasn’t so clairvoyant
I think Duke blew it late first half and early second half. They had the opp to KO and failed to do it. JFB with another Heisman-esque performance
Gig ‘em Aggies! Great comeback!
Class of ‘84
The A&M v. Duke game was the best bowl game I’ve seen this season! Most of the others have been lackluster or just blowouts by one team over another.
This was an exiciting game to watch because anything was possible on every play, it seemed.
Enjoyed seeing Johnny and the Aggies step up and begin shutting down Duke. Johnny further proved his abilities.
Ooops...
exiciting = exciting
An LSU friend called me at half-time and I made similar comments as yours about the on-side kick.
I said that I would be furious about that and would come out fighting...compared it to a team kicking a last second FG when up 35.
I loved the final score! It was fun!...more fun than being ahead from the get-go. And a horrible way to lose! LOL!
It was like rubbing salt into the wound.
Johnny looked really pissed. Seems like he is the real deal though. I really like Evans too though tonight he drew a crowd which left Labhart open most of the night.
It was good to see A&M *want* the win. Duke played well, too.
Be nice if ESPN could’ve shown a few minutes of the FTAB at halftime..
That coming from this Longhorn.
So is this another reason for the Texans to pick JFB as the first pick in the draft?
Great game but I think you guys are nuts. A&M won because Duke made two FG from close in and missed another one and the QB threw a pick six. When Duke took 3 to make it 38 instead of 42 with first half expiring and then missed a short FG to start the 2d half instead of getting to what should have been at least 41 - really 45 - thats why they lost - and A&M and the onside kick had zero to do with any of that. Manziel hadn’t even had the ball for 15 minutes of clock time by the time they finally got to play offense in the 3rd qrtr. And it was hours since the onside kick when A&M finally stopped them on D if you call what they did stopping them.
I had no dog in that hunt but I am really glad I watched the game. Go Buckeyes!
Johnny “Football” is going to be Johnny on the “DL” once he hits the NFL.
I only managed to catch the second half, and I can say with absolute certainty that Duke did NOT do an onside kick at any time right up to the end of the game.
You must have been watching the New Years Twilight Zone marathon.
Late in the 2nd Quarter. Sorry, typo.
If the Heisman Trophy had been awarded after all the bowl games were over, Manziel would have won his second one.
That was an amazing performance.
