Terrorist Bombs May Already Be Built-Into Walls of Olympic Venues by Infiltrated Construction Crews

Vaunted $2B 'Ring of Steel' security cordon -constituted of 100,000+ troops/officers- may be too little, too late...

With the start of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games at Sochi starting two weeks from today (Feb 7), the terrorist threats keep coming... the Americans are preparing for the worst... and they still haven't found the Black Widows.

On the bright side, Simon Saradzhyan -a research fellow in science and international affairs at Harvard- told the Boston Globe now that Putin's 5x25 mile 'Ring of Steel' has been deployed, any potential terrorists would have great difficulty in moving explosives/weaponry past security checkpoints and into Sochi, making substantial attacks (i.e. the 2002 raid on a Moscow theater in which more than 900 hostages were held) fairly unlikely.

"I foresee no strong possibility of major terrorist attack that would require mass evacuation, like a mass hostage taking or a series of hostage-takings," he said. They simply wouldn't be able to muster the men and materials necessary anywhere near the Olympic venues, unless they'd somehow previously hidden a substantial amount force somewhere inside the town.

However -Saradzhyan said- there remains the distinct possibility that would-be terrorists have already planted bombs in the shining, new facilities during their construction... or "people have moved into the city long ago and are just biding their time waiting for the right time to strike."

Another problem with the Russians is a general lack of communication -and trust- between the vast country's numerous overlapping armed forces, police, and other security/intelligence organizations.

I guess all we can do is kick-back and hope for the best... the Kremlin's not willing to accept any help or advice, and playing defense with terrorism is
always a dreary proposition.

But one of the pillars of Vladimir Putin's domestic support is his reputation as a 'slayer of terrorists' who 'keeps us safe'... and any embarrassment at his $51B prestige project at Sochi would likely do serious damage to that reputation, undermining Putin's power and emboldening the Russian opposition...

What other activities are you willing to cancel to be safe from the terrorists?

You know, the ones that might not be a ‘win for the human race’ in your opinion.

The terrorists love to shoot up church services in the Middle East. Maybe we should stop those too?

You know, just to be safe and all.

Even if the Olympics weren't under terrorist threat I would eliminate them.

I suppose now we have to keep them going just so it doesn't look like we're caving to terrorists.

Or we could be smart for once and just cancel them forever.

How about true amateurs agree to meet once every four years at some already built track facility and compete? How about no ads, no TV coverage, no IOC committee members traipsing about the world, collecting bribes, and deciding which country is the next "winner" based on who has the best hookers?

look at how many terrorists have infiltrated our own government.

Not the same. Under the Obama admin they were invited to penetrate our government. They were given special rights and access.

Again, proof Obama is the worst president ever or what?

I believe that I read that right after the incident.

I'm being narcissistic.

“Vlad has a reputation to keep up. I think he’ll have the games very secure.”

The Chechens have had years to plan, hide weapons and ordnance, plant their operatives into Sochi livelihoods or even recruit from Sochi natives.

The Nuking of Mecca will occur when either the Russians or the ChiComs are pushed too far by these clowns.

and they still haven't found the Black Widows.

They're in the walls...wearing suicide vests. Hey, no one claimed they were smart...

Ok. Let’s say we eliminate the Olympics as we currently know them.

What about when they attack Christmas services at Vatican Square? Via smartphone controlled drone. Do we let them stop that, just in case. Or just becasue?

When you let them decide the rules of engagement you’ve already agreed to defeat.

I don’t understand your beef with the Olympics. It’s the people who have risen to the top of their sports coming together to compete. Why punish someone because they’re not an amateur? My son went to snowboard camp in Oregon last summer and his coach he had is one of the Olympic snowboarders this year. It’s really inspired my son to shoot for competition.

Even if they were to attack the Super Bowl successfully three years in a row I would still have the Super Bowl the next year. Some things are just too sacred to cancel due to terrorist threat.

If they attacked it 3 years in a row what sort of attendance enticements would they have to offer to get fannies in seats?

Because there is so much money involved there is now a very big temptation to cheat especially by various forms of doping.

So now you're not necessarily getting the best in class but the most hopped up in class.

Those that are considered the best are now up for vote. Do we include snowboarders this year or not? Skateboarders? BMX bikers? Chess players?

It's all so arbitrary. Especially when you consider the sports that are judged subjectively like ice skating and gymnastics or where the refs get involved like basketball.

It's a complete mess.

But I realize that everything involving humans is less than perfect. If a bunch of people want to get excited about pampered, drugged up athletes competing in a city that provided the largest bribes and best hookers to the IOC knowing that by doing so they are pretty much guaranteeing that that city will be bankrupted because of all of the new stadiums they had to promise to build in order to get the gig and that will remain mostly vacant afterwards, then the more power to them.

Substitute NFL for IOC and tell me the difference.

I have always thought we should have nuked Medina on 9/12/2001 and warned that if there was any retaliation, Mecca would be next.
