Depends on when they catch it and why they remove it. If it has burst or gotten infected, it can be pretty rough.

I had one when I was 7 months pregnant with my now 21 year old son. I had a horrible pain in my side and was nauseous and vomiting. I don’t remember how long my recovery was, but I’m thinking maybe a week.

Cooked dinner for the wife and grand kids. Had no appetite. Felt constipated for a few hours. The feeling graduated into cramps at about 10 pm. At 11 barfed. I have a hard time describing the feeling directly as “pain”, but more of extreme discomfort. Some pain in abdomen but more on the left side for some reason. Took a bus to the ER.

I don’t know what kind of surgery I had, by the way. But, since it was 21 years ago, I’m sure it wasn’t any of those new fangled surgeries. :-)

I had one in 1999. A dull constant pain started in the area of the navel. Over a few hours it traveled to my right side. It's a pain unlike a gas pain because the pressure of the pain doesn't abate for any amount of time. The area on the right side of your abdomen should become very tender and painful to a pressured touch.

I was in the hospital for a day and back in school by the end of the week. I've heard the laparoscopic surgery has so improved since my time that the downtime is even shorter.

How odd, that procedure didn't affect Biden in that manner. In any case I told my Doctor that I would rather have a bottle in front of me than have a frontal lobotomy, I may however change my mind if hitlary gets elected.

Sharp right side pain to the point I couldn't straighten up to walk.

If you think it's appendicitis, go to your doctor or ER.

I waited a little and when they got to it, it had ruptured.
Nearly killed me, in and out of a coma for nearly a month till the antibiotics took hold.

If they get to it before it ruptures, no big deal now days.
If it ruptures, it can kill you.

I was sicker than a dog and should’ve seen a doc sooner but I waited until it was almost too late. My fault.

Like the surgeon told me before the surgery: “Why are you here? People your age don’t get appendicitis.”

They removed my appendix through my belly button but because I waited so long before getting medical help I had to stay in hospital for an additional 8 days. Young healthy studs usually are discharged in 1 or 2 days.

Its been over 40 years ago, but the symptoms were kind of a dull pain stomachache more or less on the right side. Came on after supper & it felt like food was not digesting. It was Saturday evening and wife called the doctor. He showed up at the office asked some things & pushed his open hand fingers into my right side. Pulled it out rapidly and watched me wince. Took me to the hospital & when I woke up, supposedly the appendix was gone. Had about an 1.5 inch scar, so don’t know if he took anything out or not, but he was proud of the small scar. Haven’t had any problems since, so maybe the appendix is really gone. I was back to work about the following Thursday.

That was before Obamacare. If I remember right, the total cost was around $400.

Good luck.

Fifty some years ago, I refused food.

My parents took me directly to the hospital, knowing that if I was off my feed, I must be deathly ill.

I was in surgery within the hour.

...and eating normally the next day.

I was visiting my mother in the hospital in 1967 when my stomach starting hurting. 1 hour later I was in the OR. Medical technology has improved since then but you can’t beat the timing.

Had mine out in 1956. Spent a week in the hospital. Couldn't ride my bike for 6 weeks.

But I did manage to play badminton at my cousins...and ripped open my side. Pushed it together with tape and never told mom. Big 6 inch scar.

My 46 year old son just has his out a month ago...three little teenie cuts...36 hours in the hospital...no bowling for 3 weeks. The muscles get cut during the procedure.

Symptom(s) Pain in lower right abdomen just above the leg socket. Apply pressure to the area and release suddenly. If it hurts you have appendicitis.

Treatment: These days it large doses of anti-biotics. last resort is surgical removal

The first is the best. IF you can get over it that way it is better than being cut.

The latter has risks where now 30 years on, I have had two episodes in the last five years where the scar tissue (which continues to grow) around the area will constrict the flow from your small intestine to the large and you back up. This is extremely painful and life threatening if allowed to continue for 10 days or more.

My wife had an upset stomach during the early evening one day last year.

The next day at 3am I awoke to hear her coughing in the living room. I got up to see what was going on and she was on her knees next to the sofa trying to prevent herself from vomiting.

She had great sensitivity to pain in her lower right abdomen, exactly where you would expect to find localized pain in an attack of appendicitis, though I believe this symptom can come very late in the process for some people.

Much to my surprise my wife, who ordinarily wouldn't want to get near a doctor or hospital, was eager to be taken to our local emergency room.

My greatest concern at that moment became the potential difficulty in getting her into the car. She would have to go down three or four steps and walk about twenty feet. This was going to be difficult for someone who found it painful to even stand up. I was not looking forward to figuring out how to get her into the car if she collapsed on the walkway in front of our house.

The six mile drive to down was difficult because she was obviously uncomfortable and suffered pain with every bounce of the car. If you saw our rural road you would understand what a burden that was.

The drive to town was otherwise uneventful. My wife had to sit at the check-in desk and try to answer questions while in great pain. She was much more comfortable when finally getting onto a gurney in an examination room.

It took little time for the doctor to carry out his process to determine the cause of my wife's condition. It's evidently procedure to backup the doctor's examination with a cat-scan to verify the cause.

It took about ninety minutes to take the scan and send it out electronically to be interpreted. During the middle of the night such scans get interpreted in AUSTRALIA. The word came back verifying the doctor's diagnosis.

Only then did my wife get medication for the pain; a very light dose of morphine. Morphine tolerance is individual so they don't give much for a first dose.

My wife was admitted for surgery and the surgery took place the next morning at about 11am. The surgery took about 45 minutes and my wife spent another 15 minutes in recovery after the general anesthetic. She had two one-inch incisions due to the only slightly invasive technique used for a typical appendectomy these days.

Because of my wife being over 70 she was held overnight for observation and released the next day by noon. Younger people would typically be released the same day as the surgery. My wife's general health is excellent and she recovered completely within a couple of days.

The localization of the pain is one symptom which is really helpful in taking the right steps, but it won't necessarily be present. Probing that lower right abdominal area might reveal sensitivity even if the person is not experiencing any pain.

If the appendix ruptures, peritonitis can result with potentially life threatening possibilities. My wife's case would seem to be one of acute appendicitis. It is possible for an attack of appendicitis to improve by itself and not lead to rupture, but it's best to get it diagnosed.

You need more than an appendectomy if you look for medical advice on FR.

Caught mine barely in time.

One hour from discovery by CAT scan into surgery.

Spent next day in recovery room. Went home before noon the next.

No complications. Little pain. Huge bill for insurance company.
