You are so right about Swiss Family Robinson!
They prospered on that desert island because they had all the shipwreck spoils to themselves, and everyone else on that ill-fated ship was dead!
Howcum no one else survived the ship running aground? The captain was killed by a falling spar, but what about all the others?
I haven’t read the book but in the Disney movie, the crew abandoned ship.
It was a pretty good movie and while maybe not realistic, it sure beat “Gilligan’s Island.
Swiss family Robinson is a hilarious book!!! It was written by a guy who hD never left the country, writing about exotic Lands and animals he had read about in books. He wrote during the cold winters to amuse his family.
My little son made me read about the invading snake a 100 times and we laughed to tears. They have no snakes in Switzerland. So he had written that the vicious snake comes to attack them standing erect, bouncing up the path to the house.
I believe they also rode ostriches. And as Swiss cannot imagine life without potatoes, he wrote about the delight of the family Robinson finding wild potatoes growing on the island.
It really is a very funny book.

If I remember the book, the crew abandoned ship, just prior to the storm or just after the Captain died because of the pirates. The Family was basically locked into their cabin by order of the captain when the Pirates showed up the first time.
The family didn’t have a small boat to go back and forth to shore and used rafts made from emptied casks the fresh water had been carried in.
The ended up on the island across from Gilligan's Island -- the one with headhunters and no one to teach them how to say "PULU SEE PACUMBA!"
And they probably didn't look like deities:
