Karen Handel is the only candidate in the Georgia Senate race with cojones

If you and me were running from a bear, I would stop and change my shoes Asked why, I say I don’t have to run faster than the bear, only faster than you. This is the issue for Handel: can she beat the triumvirate and make it to the runoff against Perdue?

The three sitting Congressmen have very similar voting records: National Taxpayers Union ratings grouped between 80% and 85%, and Heritage Alliance scores of 93% to 94%, they are grouped better than an expert marksman’s bullseye. They also have war chests, and a sitting Congressman’s built-in advantage in access to the press and voters.

It’s no wonder that Handel trails the others according to the RealClearPolitics average, at 10% to Perdue’s 21%. The Congressmen are grouped inside the margin of error between 11% and 15%.

Handel is stopping to change her shoes for the sprint. With high profile support from Sarah Palin, and now the American Future Fund, it’s very possible that Handel can accomplish making it to the runoff, and this summer, the GOP nomination.

I hope she does.

What caused you to excerpt your own blog?

Okay, I’ll bite: in what way does she have cajones that the other candidates lack?

I don't know what the writer meant. But, Kingston and Perdue are not good conservatives they are establishment corporatist. Gingrey and Broun are good conservatives but instead of being compared to Cruz, Paul or Lee they are compared to Aiken and Mourdock. The three congressmen have been in office for about 40 years combined and they have never really stood out. They are old men(older even then me). Handel is really the only one left standing.

If you have something worth saying, say it here and we’ll talk about it.

To expect FReepers to visit your blog for a couple of paragraphs is insulting and unnecessary.

I’m a GA native, so I try to keep up with things there (Erk Russell was a neighbor).

Unlike our self-appointed anti-blogger, humblegunner, I don’t mind checking out your blog and did read your argument. That said, I am not a fan of Karen Handel. I was put off by Handel’s behavior this week when she rejected David Perdue’s apology for pointing out that Handel lacks a college degree. Handel insisted instead that Perdue should apologize to every Georgian who doesn’t have a college degree — a silly tactic that made Handel sound like a snippy little girl and not at all like a United States Senator. Grow up and act like a big boy, Karen.

She should have turned it into a positive and said that she didn’t get her degree, but with hard work and against odds, she has had wonderful achievements.

I agree she sounded snippy.

She took on Planned Parenthood, publicly. Check out her book “Planned Bullyhood”. She was a competent and outspoken Georgia Secretary of State who refused to “play politics” and modernized the SoS office more than it had been in the previous 30 years. Broun’s smart and has a voting record, but in the end he has put nothing of his own on the line, except talk. Neither have the other candidates.

Thanks for reading! It’s also posted at RedState. This was nothing more than my personal opinion, and my vote (of course). Handel should have been more gracious, but in this race, nobody is being particularly gracious, so they are offsetting penalties. If “act like a big boy” means accept insults and then just an apology is okay—go ahead and bash me to bits, then I’m glad she’s counterpunching. This is the kind of counterpunching I think the Senate needs. Broun is verbally engaging, but he’s no Ted Cruz.

If Karen Handel was a man instead of a woman, she would not even be in this race.

I am merely pointing out that Karen Handel does not have a record of accomplishment that I would expect of a United States Senator. Barack Obama was immunized from his total lack of accomplishment by the mere presence of his Magic Melanin, while a similarly inexperienced white male would have been laughed out of the race. Karen Handel has gained Sarah Palin's endorsement because she's the girl in the primary and the Democrats are also running a female -- because Handel is certainly NOT the most Conservative or experienced candidate in the race.

Call it misogyny if you choose to divine motives, but I do not see in Karen Handel the qualities of a strong US Senator. What I do see are the marks of a busybody and a government hack, and I don't like that.
