They do eat the pies apparently, which are poorly digested first time around and contain a lot of water pluss the grazing breaks down brush and opens up more areas to green new growth during the sparse rains. Apparently the turtle populations fall ~70-90% when grazing is eliminated on areas they live.

What is interesting is that the cattle complement the tortoise which negates the governments argument for “environmental” reasons.

All of this happened due to the lying on part of the government, and to the gullibility of the public.
