OBAMA HUDDLES WITH NATIONAL SECURITY TEAM: President Barack Obama met last night with his national security team to discuss the situation in Iraq. Participants included Vice President Joe Biden, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, Secretary of State John Kerry, Attorney General Eric Holder and National Security Adviser Susan Rice, plus at least three members of the military: Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey, Vice Chairman Adm. Sandy Winnefeld and head of U.S. Central Command Gen. Lloyd Austin. The president will continue to consult with his national security team in the days to come, the White House said in a statement.
The meeting came after the president notified Congress hes sending up to 275 U.S. military personnel to Iraq to provide security as the State Department evacuates some personnel from the U.S. embassy in Baghdad. It also came as U.S. officials are making a strenuous effort, as The Washington Post reports, to persuade Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to move within a matter of days toward a more inclusive power-sharing arrangement. http://wapo.st/1lMuiC7
ARE WE HEADED FOR A LONG STALEMATE? Middle East expert Ken Pollack of the Brookings Institution emails Morning D with his thoughts on the current state of play in Iraq: The most likely near-term outcome seems to be a bloody stalemate along the Sunni-Shia internal borders. On the one hand, that suggests that ISIS and the other Sunni militants are unlikely to get to Iraqs vast oil fields in the South any time soon.
On the other hand, it suggests that the Iraqi civil war is likely to burn on and on in a vicious deadlock, while ISIS and other terrorists set up shop in secure areas in northern Iraq.
Pollack has a larger piece on the situation here: http://bit.ly/U2j4Pz [continued]

Obama huddles
Run the Statue of Liberty play, POSOTUS. It works on the sheeple.
Ooh. A pick-up game of Strip Hearts. How fun.
Long stalemate, or quick surrender with medals of valorous restraint for all surrendering service members.
Wow, that's some line-up. A Who's Who of incompetence, malfeasance, and self-serving disingenuousness.
how many Obama national security advisors does it take to change a light bulb?
Who would that be? Susan Rice? Don’t you feel safe now?
The fact that a former slacker van driver for Obama’s senate run is now the National Security Council spokesman is really all you need to know about the seriousness of the Obama administration.
