Pizza driver beaten with baseball bat during delivery, police say (New Orleans knockout game)

A pizza-delivery driver was beaten by a man with a baseball bat early Tuesday morning in the former B.W. Cooper housing projects, New Orleans Police said.

The driver was taking a delivery to the 1300 block of South Prieur Street shortly before 2 a.m., and saw a man waiting outside when he arrived, said NOPD Detective Sgt. David Barnes on Tuesday afternoon at the weekly meeting of Sixth District ranking officers. The driver asked the man if he was the person who placed the order, and when the man said yes, the driver turned back to the car to get the pizza, Barnes said.

At that point, the driver was attacked from behind with a baseball bat, Barnes said. He was struck several times in the head and body, and the suspects then left without taking anything or saying anything, Barnes said.

“It could be a pizza man version of ‘the knockout game,’ as best I can tell,” Barnes said.

Robberies of pizza drivers are not uncommon, noted Sgt. Daniel Scanlan, but no motive was clear for the beating.

“It’s unknown why they would order a pizza and just whack the guy with a baseball bat,” Scanlan said.

The driver had to have several staples in his head after the attack and is now recovering at his home, said Mark Murret, a safety director for the Domino’s franchise. The driver tried to give the assailants the pizza, Murret said, but they seemed to ignore it as they attacked him.

“He said, ‘Here, take the pizza,’” Murret said. “But they just kept beating him.”

Domino’s restricts the amount of cash that drivers carry to make them less of a target, Murret said. The store’s phones have caller ID, and drivers call back the numbers they receive orders from to confirm that the order is legitimate, Murret said. Finally, if they feel unsafe at any time, they are authorized to return to the store.

“Pizza delivery is a vulnerable occupation,” Murret said. “You’re vulneable, just like anyone else who deals with the public.”

Domino’s will stop delivery to the immediate area around the site of the attack for now, Murret said, but will re-evaluate if an arrest is made in the case.

“Due to the violent nature of the incident, we won’t be delivering to the area for the time being,” Murret said.

The driver has been with Domino’s for two years, and workman’s compensation will help him with his medical expenses and the work that he misses, Murret said. Domino’s also has an internal foundation to help employees when an emergency strikes and keeps them from their jobs, he said.

pizza and other amenities should not be delivered to these areas.”

I agree. Even in our safe suburban area, our pizza delivery company charges $20 extra for delivery after 5 p.m. and there are always two guys in the car. Several of the other small restaurants use a central delivery service and I would strongly suspect that their delivery guys are packing.

Thank you, I am glad you liked it.

Jefferson understood the place firearms held, and must hold, in America. This summarizes the Founders view of privately held firearms: “One loves to possess arms, though they hope never to have occasion for them.”

Always be on guard when someone orders a pizza with “peanut butter jelly peanut butter jelly peanut butter jelly with a baseball bat.”

“It’s unknown why they would order a pizza and just whack the guy with a baseball bat,”

Well gee, let me take a shot at answering that one.
Could it be that large groups of blacks just hate white people?
..and why not with every Rat politician calling all their political opponents "racists"-why shouldn't every hood rat take the Democrat scumbag politicians at their word and go out and kick the life out of every white they see-after all ALL whites are racists, right?
MSNBC screams it every night, human blackmail machines like Sharpton & Jackson become rich saying it, right? ..and beside chances are the more whites they ambush the less chance of it appearing on the nightly news or the local rag since most of the American news media have become silent partners in the Society to Prevent Black Crime becoming Public.
So the next time some minimum wage pizza delivery guy gets murdered or maimed by another tribal ambush-don't entirely blame the poor murderers-blame the real guilty party-every black Democrat politician in congress along with the head douchebags like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi who implicitly conspire with the real killers every time they call another opponent a "racist"
They are just as guilty maybe more guilty because their message has gotten just where they wanted it to go!

Perhaps they just mistook the driver for a mysterious monolith about 3 million years ago.

No problem. There will be a surcharge for the armed escort required to deliver pizza to the shit hole that you've chosen as your domicile.

There are places whites should not visit, most of them in low income housing and liberal areas, like San Fran.

Most of San Francisco is just fine.

Now, across the Bay in Oakland, that’s another thing entirely . . .

It’s easy for the company to tell the driver to turn over the pizza and their money. It’s not the company’s money, it’s the driver’s. In some cases the driver would have to pay for the pizza.

Wrong on both counts...

I delivered pizza for many years from Sept to Dec to supplement my income for the holidays...

Each driver gets a starting cash amount to make make change...his draw...$20.00

At the end of each delivery he makes a drop in his personal locked box to keep his cash low...

At the end of the night he adds up his cash deliveries and pays the store plus his draw...everything left is his tips...

I never had a store charge me for a pizza for whatever reason...

BTW, I was doing this ten years ago and was making about $12.00 an hour in tips plus my pay...not a bad part time job to make Christmas special for my children...

There are guys who do it full time and make a decent living

I delivered pizza in the early 90s.
So the company would reimburse you if you were robbed? The company would just take your word for it if the pizza was stolen?

No. but if you were doing your job according to policy you walked out the door with your next deliveries with just your draw...the rest was dropped...including your tips...

The company would just take your word for it if the pizza was stolen?

No, but they would take the word of a police report...

You leave the store with your $20 and a multiple pizza order. On your way back to your car you are robbed, you could lose as much as $50 depending on the order. Of course you are going to hang around and wait for the police.
When I was delivering drivers were being robbed on a regular basis. All too often they would be shot first, before they could give up their money. We even had an undercover cop killed while posing as a delivery driver. Obeying that rule was useless.
