What exactly are the rules of engagement for this operation?
Unless he is willing to use Military power, then calling out the military is nothing but a photo op.
Hopefully this will be more than symbolic BS to help his political career. I have my doubts though.
Texas Hold`em
All Perry’s action does is prove what we’ve suspected all along: that he’s a borderline conservative who is firmly rooted in being a RINO. His order to send in the National Guard is nothing more than a soundbite/photo op/attempt to add to his conservative credentials... while in actuality doing nothing substantial whatsoever. The border between Texas and Mexico is at least 1000 miles long, so do the math on sending in 1000 troops.
More diaper changers are on the way,
to save the day.

Has Perry revealed what the scope and duties of the NG will be?
Or is this more like the facade GWBush created when he put 6,000 NG on the border — in shifts of a few hundred for a few weeks at a time, adding up to the 6,000 over several months?
The last NGs on the border were tasked with filling out forms, filing, washing BP vehicles, etc. They were not even allowed to carry weapons. If fired upon by Those-across-the-border, they were supposed to hunker down.

At least, Perry is finally doing something. I just hope it is more than political posturing for 2016.
Let’s not agree with the pretense of Gov. Perry really doing anything.
The National Guard of Texas is under orders to NOT APPREHEND illegal aliens.
This is another empty, meaningless, PR Stunt by Rick “Open Borders” Perry.
The National Guard could be apprehending ALL Illegal Aliens, but Rick Perry has them under orders to NOT APPEHEND.
If Texas won’t let them in from Mexico, Obama will bus them to Texas from New Mexico and Arizona. I miss the rule of law.
