I’ve got the first two seasons on DVD (from Amazon), so it should be available.

Be extra careful in the subway.

Ha! I have to admit, I get a little nervous standing at the front while waiting for the train. That was one of the most shocking moments I can remember from TV or the movies.

Have you seen Rectify?

Man is freed from Death Row and comes home to a small town in Georgia. Second season is on now.

Currently watching “The Killing” on Netflix. Not sure why I have stuck with it. It’s based on a Danish TV series, and is as depressing as those 60’s Swedish films.

No, I will look for it on Netflix.

I don’t think I could manage depressing Danish television.

“I remember the original, it was awesome, I have no interest in the remake.”

Two different things. The original 12 episode series from the UK, versus the newer Kevin Spacey US series.

I haven’t seen it yet, but it is very, very highly rated.

How do you judge if it highly rated? Isn’t it like a web series or something?

Original British version, and new US version are on Netflix.

The US version gets higher ratings there.

Lots of nominations, awards, etc.

It’s been half a year since you posed this question. Mrs. R2z and I are now about 10 or 11 episodes into watching the series. Are fascinated, especially with the local Gaffney and South Carolina connection.

Keep seeing Bill and Hillary sort of but don’t know other real-life players well-enough to recognize more that bits and pieces from recent news stories. Excellent scripts, direction, acting.

I had almost forgotten this thread....but I do firmly believe this show demonstrates how incredibly isolated Washington is from the rest of the country. Yeah, a little gratuitous on the sex and violence - but it is entertainment - and while they demonstrate my thesis - that was not their intention.

One thing that fascinated me is how they make liberals and Democrats look MUCH worse than conservatives and Republicans and tea party types. They make all Democrats, including the unions, etc, look just terrible. They sort of make the GOP look almost irrelevant, but it’s benign compared to the “self loathing” they have for themselves.

Also, Frank should be from Charleston - with that accent, and with his politics - that’s not upstate SC. But I’ll forgive the creators that. Spacey is awesome.

You're right. I think they just wanted to work the Peachoid into the script somehow. He's definitely more Charlestonian...and so is the former Mrs. Penn.

I’m finding the new season to be a chore to watch. The UK version maintained interest throughout but this (five episodes in) is humorless with Spacey’s character playing an unrelenting asshole. Too dark.

I don’t like this season as much either - I power watched all of them with a friend...kind of like a train wreck....but I had to get through it.

It can be. The acting is fabulous, the casting is mostly great, and the dialogue is outstanding. I think it's also important, in some unintentional ways. It really shows the isolation of DC from the rest of the country - and how no one in that town gives a damn about anything but that town, and how they can have a rich career in that town. Related to this, it shows DC as a dark town (notice the opening scenes with shadows and darkness over taking everything?). It is indeed.

Yes, and Underwood even holds disdain for those just going after the moola as opposed to attaining power and political leverage on the grand scale. He could teach Machiavelli a few things. There is interesting character development. Maybe Stephen King had it wrong and DC not Vegas will be the evil center after airborne ebola flu.

Yeah, that power over money scene was one of the most interesting peaks into the dark soul of Underwood.....
