Black community leaders in Fresno, Calif., are urging the Fresno Unified School District to re-evaluate the hiring of a white guy to teach three cultural studies courses at a brand-new middle school that will overwhelmingly serve minority students.
Rutherford B. Gaston Middle School — named after the city’s first black principal — will open in a few short weeks. It’s the first middle school in the immediate, poverty-ridden vicinity since 1979.
The protesters are unhappy because the school has chosen to hire Peter Beck, a person with white skin, over other, unidentified candidates, The Fresno Bee reports.
Beck will teach African-American studies, Latino studies and Southeast Asian studies.
On Monday morning, a small band of activists showed up in front of the sparkling new school at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Church Avenue. The local press was also there.
“We’re just saying what the community wants,” said Rev. Karen Crozier, one of the activists. “We didn’t fight for a white male or female teacher to educate our babies.”
Crozier, who appears to be a professor at Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary, also suggested that a white person cannot teach minority children in this instance because of racism.
“We still are at these racial fault lines, and we want someone who will be able to think critically about those racial fault lines and how do we help heal, to restore the problems that have existed,” she explained.
Another black community leader, Paul McCoy of New Light for New Life Church of God, also spoke.
“We’re all faced today with so much dysfunction and violence from young people, and that violence is simply because they don’t know who they are, they don’t know where they come from,” he proclaimed.

Do they even BOTHER with American history in this liberal run middle school?
Would the 'leader' of the opposition translate this sentiment back to what they view of 1900-1960s America with reference to "what the community wants" with respect to blacks?
I think not. Logic, the rule of law and intelligence and reason are wasted on them.

I thought “our” diversity was “our” strength?
When are these kids supposed to have a positive experience dealing with white people if not in their school?
ALL black teachers.
Let THEM take the blame for test scores and disciplinary actions, because I'm sick of being told that minority failure and delinquencies are all due to white teachers being racist.

Well, yeah. You just have to understand what “diversity” actually means:
Less Western Culture, Fewer White People.

Privatize the schools first, and then go ahead and deny a qualified candidate a teaching position. All except the most racist of blacks in the area would immediately reject this garbage “school”, and these stupid liberals would be crying for bankruptcy status. Get rid of the Federal Reserve and government handouts, however, and watch as the staff of this foul school starves in the streets for being such miserable racists!
If I were in charge of a school, I would eliminate all programs that include the word "studies"--black studies, Latino studies, even social studies--and replace them with civics, history and geography.

Peel back the melanin deficient skin and you still have a liberal. What kind of person goes in to life wanting to teach such indoctrination ‘blame whitey’ courses? Liberals, that’s who.
It amazes me the number of people that cannot read a friggin’ map.
They want someone who can teach their “babies”. But they won’t be able to teach them who they daddy be?
Plus they want someone who an teach using ebonics.
