I know, this may not be the most important thing on the internet today, what with everything happening in Iraq, the Ukraine, Israel and elsewhere, along with all the turmoil in our own country, but I feel strongly about celebrating our heritage as Americans, believing in God, country and our flag.

I also believe that if we forget our history, not only are we doomed to repeat it, but we also lose some of what makes America unique - that we were once a nation of expansion, of great ideas, of great achievements, and I believe we can be again.

The odd thing about Missouri was that, even though it did not officially become a state until August 10, 1821, its electoral votes were counted in the 1820 election.

Not that it made much difference: James Monroe got every electoral vote minus one.
