New Police Tactic in Ferguson: Betray Local Business Owners
The National Review's The Corner / CNN ^ | August 16, 2014 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 08/16/2014 11:00:59 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

We’ve been told for days now that that the reason there was rioting in Ferguson is because protesters were “provoked” by militarized police. I agree with some of my colleagues that cops should look like cops (see Kevin’s excellent piece here), and it is deeply unsettling to see police atop armored vehicles training weapons on protesters. On the other hand, there is no justification to throw projectiles at police, no matter what kind of uniforms they are wearing or what kind of vehicles they have, nor is there any justification for destroying or stealing other people’s property.

Now, we’ve had a real world test of the “provocation” thesis. The highway patrol came in with a much softer and friendlier posture and it seemed to work Thursday night in reducing tensions, but it didn’t last night. Shamefully, the cops evidently stood by while looters destroyed and stole things. We’ve heard an awful lot about the function of police in our society the last few days. Well, how about this as a function? Protect the property of innocent people.

From CNN:

Looters ran out of shops with boxes stacked in their arms up to their chins. Behind them lay overturned shelves, spilled goods and wrecked displays. All the while, police stayed back by their armored vehicles and observed but did not stop them.

Three Molotov cocktails pummeled the roof of a Domino’s Pizza, burning a hole, before firefighters put the flames out.

What did Tanya Littleton did to deserve getting looted, and getting abandoned by the people who are supposed to protect her?(continued)

Ferguson obviously does not require a thriving tax base

Most business owners will just move on elsewhere.

Some folks have just been waiting for an excuse to riot, burn and loot.

Tax revenue base will shrink by forty percent over the next three years. Police force and fire department will have to shrink....to fit the new finance model.

People don’t care....seeing nothing of how a community functions.

Well training a scoped rifle with a Luepold that is made for 1,000 yard shots is foreign as well.

Makes it look like more like a foreign military is occupying American soil and not local LEO.

There was nothing preventing them from using binoculars and spotting scopes.

Americans are not prey, even if they are out of line.

Further, pointing five rifles at a guy with his hands up and tossing reporters and defacto arresting them while they are doing legitimate work, from a business that apparently invited them to recharge their gear from behind the counter.

There is no excuse for banging someone’s head off a soda machine or the door jam.

Police are beginning to look as if the only thing they will protect is their pension.

How sworn officers can stand by while looting occurs may have something to do with the lamentable fact that the new”Top Cop” is black and the looters are black.

Other than allowing his “brothers” to loot right in front of the police, what possible reason can there be for officers with armored vehicle backup just watching a looting of a store?

Between Holder being black(and all too present ‘in spiritus’ if not ‘in corpus’) and the black “Top Cop” sent in by the Governor, an argument can be made that American blacks are going out of their way to act out the worst stereotypes. Other than supporting looting by the black members of the Free Sh*t Army, what reason justifies all that police power watching a looting?

Were all of them so stuffed with donuts they couldn't waddle across the street and deal with “Lootie”? I doubt it!

“Top Cop” is responsible.

One may only hope the owners of the looted stores can sue that melanin enhanced looter enabler.

The thing that I thought was really creepy was that the police (or actually, I think it was the Highway Patrol, which seemed to have been given the job by the governor) said that they were relying on the Black Muslims and the Black Panthers.

I know this is a long held dream of Holder’s, but really. I expect you’re going to see a wave of Black Muslim “conversions” out of this, because they have been officially appointed top dogs in the hood by our very own government.

So i see, bash the police for doing their job, then bash them for not doing their job.

Right.

Maybe what we really need to do— since the police are obviously all racist devils murdering every black child they see — Maybe they just need to get all poice out of ferguson period, and then let al and Jesse run it.

And see how that goes.

<>Most business owners will just move on elsewhere.<>

Move on with what? With what assets? Property insurance doesn't cover civil unrest. Their livelihoods have been destroyed in the name of tribal social justice. Unlike the rampaging negroes, business owners paid plenty of taxes for local government, whose first duty is to protect lives, and second to protect property.

Business owners don’t riot, so those who are weak (or evil) are willing to betray them.

I don’t think most who have lost their businesses to this will never recover.

If you have a good business acumen, something like this wouldn’t be the end of you. It might keep you on the ground for a few years, but once you have obtained the skills to run a business you can usually get back on your feet in due time.

In the comments to the article, a Tom Smith writes:
Immediately following the senseless WTO riots in Seattle in 1999, property insurance rates skyrocketed, and those increases passed on to resident homeowners and customers. Some businesses simply closed, as the increase in their already high rent prevented them from maintaining the cash flow necessary to remain profitable. If I was a business owner in Ferguson, I'd let them torch the business, then take the insurance reimbursement and move elsewhere. This is clearly a town that may be suited to the likes of some ignorant Black Panthers, or con-men like the Rev. Al Sharpless, but it's no longer a safe place for decent people with a reasonable head on their shoulders.
A very interesting take on what should be part of the aftermath.

No. I’m not saying they weren’t harmed or that their recovery will be easy. But they have a skill set and being able to start a business is a very valuable skill set.

Not everybody has that ability.

They are not “police” as we used to think of police. They are occupying troops with no mandate to do more than amerce the citizens and keep them from getting too unruly.
