Or sooner; What has the US done to the music tradition of Western Civilization?
There are plenty of Americans who understand and appreciate great composers like Beethoven, Vivaldi, Albinoni, Bach and Mozart, but something must be wrong with a nation that year after year produces crap like the music of 50 Cent, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.
I'm European and I admit we make a lot of worthless music too, but at least we Europeans are fostered in the great tradition of composers like the giants mentioned above.
What’s Celtic about Blue Yodel #1/T For Texas, one of the first commercial country songs by Jimmie Rogers? It’s pretty much straight 12 bar blues (except for the yodeling and that surely isn’t Celtic).
I prefer the very first recording of Rhapsody in Blue, made in 1924. That’s Gershwin himself playing the piano!

Where did I say that I was speaking of commercial country music? Try again.
It’s impossible to listen to any early country music from the southern and Appalachian regions without hearing the Irish/Celtic influence.
If you can’t hear it, you’re deaf.
Watching Die Antwoord videos is like watching a train wreck combined with the fall of Civilization. But it’s a train wreck, so you can’t not look.
Even better is this amazing solo piano roll recording Gershwin did in 1925 for the Duo-Art reproducing piano:

I have a considerable collection of very good jazz - some sucks (like Rap to me), but there's a lot of really good stuff out there. I prefer smooth jazz and female vocals, but there's also a lot of good pure instrumentals out there too.

Tonal music is back, and it's not just a rehash of the classical/romantic styles. Here's something by a younger, American-er Shoenberg:
Europe is definitely not better than America.
There are many areas where I feel America is to be admired and Europe performs poorly. One of them is patriotism. Another one is the belief in market economy and entrepreneurship. Yet another one is the standard of living; large parts of Europe is much poorer than America due to laziness, general backwardness, corruption and irresponsibility among most citizens.
You’ve got to understand that as a Swedish member of an American Republican forum, I will always be looked upon as a European Socialist (even if I’m not) so I might as well fight back. Another point about expressing myself like I do is to get attention and get a good debate going. Nobody would bother to reply if I wrote things like Volvo is an ok car, but rather boring. It’s better to put it like this: 10 reasons why Volvo is the best car on Earth!. Get my point?
When I write about how superior and splendid my Sweden is, it is meant to be interpreted tongue-in-cheek - not as hatred. Guess I could be more clear though..
I admire America and if you read what I write more carefully you will see this.
I don’t believe in senseless bashing of other nations and mud throwing. There’s too much of that on the Internet. But I do believe in competition. There’s a big difference.
There are things that really suck about Sweden and Europe in general, but I won’t apologize for loving the things that truly are great about my continent.
Again, Europe is not better than America. I’ve never said so and I think you aware I never have. Perhaps I sometimes go too far, but don’t overreact and accuse me of saying things I haven’t said.
Let’s continue to compete and do so for the right reasons.
Europe and America are close allies, not bitter enemies.
Let’s not forget the music of IRVING BERLIN!

as a canadian on this forum, i agree with a lot of this.
one of the things we can learn from others is to benchmark our own country against the best of the other countries.
Scottish and Australian, which are practically American.
In any case, we made art of their music...in a war like manner...
And how could I have forgotten one of my favorites, Frederick Delius and such American music as his “Florida Suite” and “Appalachia”.......
I would have thought it was obvious. And a look at who lived in those mountain hollows where the music sprang up would be another easy clue.

One song done by Hank Williams Sr ("My Bucket's Got A Hole In It") was written by Clarence Williams.
Here is that same American song being done by foreigners....
"My Bucket's Got A Hole In It"
And (just as a side note) here's a foreign song done by one of those same foreigners, but done in the USA at a charity concert...
Culture is where you find it. Windex may clean your mirror but it may bot be a good “center” for choosing music.
Huhn?
