Jesus taught us to “render unto Ceasar the things that are Ceasar’s.”
Paul told slaves to be obedient to their masters. He sent the runaway slave Onesimus back to his master Philemon. He commanded Christians to be in subjection to the governing authorities God placed over them.
Peter, in his first epistle, told Christians how to behave under abusive governments, masters, etc.
John the Baptizer submitted to Herod’s authority, even while he pointed out Herod’s adulterous marriage.
Christians ought to follow these examples first, and to follow others (the Founders, etc.) only insofar as they adhere to the same standard set for us by Christ and His apostles and prophets.
That doesn't preclude Ceasar being due an ass kicking, IMHO.
Did you even read the column? Where in it did I say that we should not work to be like Christ? Nowhere.
Today’s column thread ping
Or, perhaps I could better state it by asking what it is you may find objectionable in the column?
I’ll have to try it.
Amen, again!
Thank you for posting this. Over the last few years, my Pastor has on occasion taught that the only thing we are called to do in regards to our elected leaders is to pray.
Next time he does this, Im thinking Ill have a talk with him.
Thank you, Mr. Fox. It sounds like your pastor could use a little fire under his feet.
