His last words tells you he was NOT a Christian. Quoting from the poem, Invictus:

Yup, those are the words you want on your lips as you are marching off into eternity... Not 'forgive me LORD', or 'Thank you LORD', or 'help me LORD'.
Just go out with an 'unbeliever' stamp on your forehead and wake up in hell, oh master of your fate and captain of your soul...
