Rape Culture Argument Denies Mankind’s Depravity

The White House and left-wing media are pushing the ridiculous notion that 20% of college girls are raped. They base this statistic off of a highly questionable study at only two universities. In addition, the study included an expanded definition of sexual assault to include what amounts to drunken whore’s remorse. The fact is, one in five college girls are not the victims of sexual assault. Other studies indicate that around one in forty girls are the victims of rape or sexual assault. That number is too high but there’s a massive difference between 2.5% and 20%. One gets headlines, one brings on “war on women” accusations against anyone who questions.

Camille Paglia is a radical feminist and libertarian leftist. She wrote a piece for Time questioning the campaign against sexual assault. Paglia makes some good points, beginning with her critique of the Marxist education Americans are receiving today. Rather than learning about good and evil, as was the norm when Christianity dominated education, students today don’t learn about evil. At least not in the sense that western religious people might understand evil. Evil is taught not as something innate within man but rather a construct of an unjust society. If society were only fundamentally transformed, if only equality existed then all the evils of the world would go away.

Any Christian, particularly reformed Calvinists, will laugh at the notion that if only society were transformed or molded in a Marxist manner evil would disappear. We understand that man’s evil is within his heart, we are totally depraved. Unfortunately that isn’t what people are being taught in government schools today. In fact, you’ll be hard pressed to find many churches that talk about depravity today. Nevertheless depravity exists and women are particularly vulnerable to violent depraved sexual acts. The White House pretends that a campaign of ads and threats to universities will create an environment where women aren’t sexually assaulted. It is pure fantasy to believe that the depravity of mankind can be changed with such a silly, easily ignored campaign on college campuses.

The fact is women who dress like whores gain the unwanted attention of potential rapists. We’re talking about real rapists here, not the sort of cad that takes advantage of a drunk girl while in his own state of inebriation. By pretending evil doesn’t exist, women don’t bother protecting themselves from these men. The left tells them women are free to dress and behave in whatever manner they want without consequences. Unfortunately in the real world there are consequences. In the case of dressing like a slut, women gain the unwanted attention of any number of men. Most of those men are relatively harmless, however real rape does occur and those men are out there looking for a woman to commit despicable acts of violence against. If history shows us anything it’s that the barbarity of mankind is lurking within us all, civilization easily devolves into an orgy of violence and lawlessness.

If women want to protect themselves against rape and other sexual assaults the starting place isn’t a White House educational campaign. The starting place is each individual woman protecting herself. Not dressing in skimpy clothing, not drinking to excess, being aware of surroundings and a concealed carry permit go a long way in protecting from violence. You may say this places all the emphasis on the behavior of women however we can apply this to all of us whether we’re talking about rape or any other violent criminal act. We must do what we can to protect ourselves in an individual capacity. Declaring that men just need to stop raping or sexually assaulting women is woefully naive. In a perfect world rape and sexual assault wouldn’t occur. We do not live in a perfect world and no amount of Marxist social engineering is going to change that fact. We can punish rapists with harsh prison terms or death. However that won’t deter a man acting out his depravity in a most depraved way. Women need to do something to protect themselves from evil. Understanding that real evil exists and that each individual could be the target of that evil or the perpetrator of evil is of the utmost importance.

Most of the left’s enlightenment exclude this factor that people with a Biblical world view understand.

Okay, seriously, MTV has hosted Spring Break in Cancun for as long as I can remember — They promote the week long debauch as all the sex, alcohol, and partying you can handle...And not to be Captain Obvious, but “stuff” happens as a result of too much sun, not enough water, and way too much alcohol and these kids wake up the next morning shaking their heads and wondering, “what in the hell happened last night.”

MTV promises “a week you will never forget!”

This is the culture that college kids live in — What in the hell do think is going to happen, a sudden outbreak of scripture reading and baking...Oh for the love of God what has happened to common sense.

Look at it this way. The Dems depend on whipping up the grievances of their various constituents. Each election requires a fresh, and usually more vigorous pack of lies and half-truths to get the voters out. Last election, they were fairly successful in basing their War on Women appeal on five to ten bucks a month worth of birth control. Now, stronger medicine—”one in five raped at college”—is needed.

What’s amazing here, is that they are silent about the Islamist threat, where almost EVERY women is abused for real. Politics is local, as Tip O’Neill used to say.

"if only society were transformed or molded in a Marxist manner evil would disappear."

Marx also proclaimed that once the workers' paradise (communism) was established throughout the world (under brutal totalitarian coercion, of course), government would disappear (brutal totalitarian coercion would no longer be necessary).

And millions of people (apparently) believe this baloney today! (They're called "stupid people".)

(P.T. Barnum was right.)

Take away “alcohol/drugs” situations and I bet the numbers plummet.

What’s the problem with calling it what it is? When a woman drinks herself into a state of intoxication and engages in sexual relations with a stranger it isn’t sexual assault. It’s frankly, whore’s remorse or in this case drunken whore’s remorse. Women are responsible for the decisions they make (as are men). If women choose to drink themselves into a state of intoxication they have no business blaming others for the poor decisions they made in that state.

When I was in school, the often-quoted statistic was that "Every year, women had a 1 in 4 chance of being raped / sexually assaulted" at the college.

It was a four year school, do the math.

Nonsense like this detracts from *real* sexual assaults, which are a horrific crime. It takes a fairly low person to politicize them, but Dems always manage to move the bar lower and lower.

Good points but let’s not overlook the depravity of the woman who seeks to dress like whore. People in our society today are normally offended today if someone suggest that a woman who is rape may have been asking for it. Yet, given the condition of the heart it is entirely possible it may be the woman’s fault.

Total depravity applies to both men and women. No woman is responsible for her own rape. Such an act of violence is solely the responsibility of the person who committed the act. Having said that, women can commit other sins which may attract the eye of someone who is intent on committing such an act of violence. Dressing immodestly is an example, so is drinking to excess.
