4 months ago Trader Joes heard widespread complaints about no grocery store in a poor urban area:
They conferred with the local leaders about opening a nice new branch store and do you know what the response was?
they rejected the Trader Joes offer because they didn’t want “anyone other than an an ethnic group with a history of oppression doing business here”.
They thought that it would “attract gentrification”, which refers to neighborhood improvement, often accomoanied by white people also living there.
So Trader Joe’s cancel their plans.
So while the prospect of starving wasnt nice, what really scared them to death was the prospect of NOT attacking the people trying to help them.

You know, this reminds me a lot of something.
When I was about five, my mother and I lived in San Francisco with her parents, because my mother had just gotten a divorce from my father.
Mom and I were walking down the street and I tried to tug her into a toy store that we passed. "No, I can't afford it", she said.
Later on, I got into her purse. I couldn't believe my eyes, there was what, thirty bucks in there! We could have bought the coolest toy in the store!
I thought she was just holding out on me, being mean for it's own sake, because she was being selfish. I didn't understand that that was for our food and clothing and her carfare to get to her (barely paying) job- when she could get one at all. And selfish? Her? Never happen.
I can't imagine being a grown-up (physically, anyway) and still thinking like that, but evidently- it does happen.
Sounds like a grown man who refused to be potty-trained, screaming for somebody to wipe his butt, to me.
What hell will there be to pay? Doe he really believe that issuing threats is going to do anything but make it worse?
