Hung onto the shotgun, lost the chair. Good decision.

I always wanted to do that!

That one’s on my bucket list.

I htink I woulda jumped and then shot the balloons. Wouldnt want to get tangled in the strings or chair.

(I could eat it raw, but why do that when I have a fire.)

This was a great stunt, but not something that I or other parachutists wouldn’t do.
It’s really just parachuting.

A guy did a similar stunt in Long Beach, years ago, except he used a pellet gun, and just kept popping the balloons in order for his lawn chair to descend. Feds prosecuted him, he was near LGB airport’s flight path. A commercial flight passed him, the pilot and first officer couldn’t believe their eyes ! He made it to 15,000 ft. “Lawnchair” Larry:

skydiving daredevil floated 8,000 feet into the air over Utah on a lawn chair tied to balloons before shooting the balloons with a shotgun.Great American stunt! Never hear about this kind of stuff with a shotgun in other countries. God bless America!

You’re gonna need a bigger balloon ! Thanks for the reply :)

(Typed while watching the fill and launch) Balloons popping at ground level is a very bad sign. As you go up the pressure drops and the balloons will expand even more. If they are all the way full to bursting at ground level you won't get very high before the big "Boom" and you start falling even without the shotgun.
I was right, they started popping in flight.
I know all the rules about opening or unloading your shotgun up while crossing a fence while hunting so you don't have any accidental discharge while crossing. Just imagine how much more dangerous it is to go parachuting and waving your loaded shotgun around.

Wasn’t this a Darwin Award entry several years back. The story IIRC was a guy in California tried this and tied a rope to the truck so the lounge chair would only go up 50 or so feet. He had a BB gun and was going to shoot balloons to lower up himself.
Story goes, the rope got loose and the guy floated above LAX.

I’d have to be good and drunk before I tried a stunt like this.
