Former Army Ranger: US Should Execute Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl

A former U.S. Army Ranger sniper and author of a best-selling book about his combat tour in Afghanistan said yesterday that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl should be executed if found guilty of deserting his unit in 2009.

“I think he should definitely be put to death,” said Nicholas “Irv” Irving, the author (with Gray Brozek) of The Reaper: Autobiography of One of the Deadliest Special Ops Snipers, said on this writer’s radio show. “He’s given a lot of information to the enemy and he should pay the price.”

Since being released last year, Bergdahl has received two promotions and about $300,000 in back pay. He currently has a desk job at an Army base in Texas.

“They called him an honorable soldier,” Irving said. “No, I don’t agree with that.”

Bergdahl spent five years with the Taliban before being released last year in exchange for the release of five prisoners from Guantanamo Bay. The Pentagon has confirmed that six soldiers died in military operations searching for Bergdahl after he left his unit without permission.

It was well understood when I was in the military that desertion would lead to you losing your life through imprisonment or execution. Punishment for breaking the rules must be administered without exception or exemption in order to maintain a strong, disciplined military.

Former Military (fill in the blank): US Should Execute Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl

Everybody who ever served could make this statement. It should also be said of the man who traded five Taliban commanders for him. Aiding the enemy is treason. Period.

Absolutely. Desertion during a time of war. The pansy will probably get 18 months and 17.5 month suspended sentence.

It is disgraceful that justice for those six families is being held hostage due to a political fight between the Army who wants at least some form of punishment and the president who approves of the deserters actions.

If the army can’t execute Maj. Hassan for killing 13 people in a terrorist attack at Ft. Hood, it is highly unlikely Bergdahl will be facing a firing squad or lethal injection. I expect Bergdahl’s case will drag out and be swept under the rug by the White House and he will get a presidential pardon when Obama leaves office.

Berg is EXACTLY the kind of “soldier” that the left adores.

It should figure - everything that we see as detestable, they will laud.

The point is that he’s not yet been found guilty of desertion, whether we think he should be or not. If convicted, he will likely forfeit all pay and benefits, be busted to E1 and given either a BCD or a DD, but the forfeitures can’t be retroactive.

And guess who we can blame all this PC bullsh*t on? You got it...the leftists. They invented it to forestall dissent and opposition to their views. If you dare to speak out against what their way of thinking is, you are attacked viciously for not falling in line. Doesn't make it right, but that's how the left handles those who disagree with them.

Unfortunately, this PC crap has invaded every corner of our society and culture, including the military. But, personally, I vow to fight against it. By design. I always like to say that I don't have to be politically correct because I'm not in politics. So there, p*ss on you liberal PC cowards!

Still, I have never heard of a person who has been a deserter for years receiving back pay. If that were the case, a person who deserted years ago could show up at a base one day and demand a few hundred thousand in back pay. If Bergdahl did receive back pay, it was a political decision, and not a general rule applied to deserters uniformly.

US Should Execute Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl

That's harsh. Bowe Bergdahl is just as patriotic and loyal to our country as Barack Hussein Obama, and Bowe is deserving of as much solicitude as our Dear Leader himself.

Well, I guess I'll go along with that but for only so far.

As a former Air Force squadron commander 40 years ago, that doesn't sound entirely correct to me. There were several guys in my squadron who got their stripes pulled under Article 31 punishments and lost their pay for a time as well. But they didn't desert the squadron.

So if he is convicted of being a deserter and/or a traitor, do the taxpayers get their $300,000 in his back pay returned to the Treasury, for the time he supposedly was "entitled" to that pay while he was playing kissy-huggy with the Taliban enemy for five years?

If convicted, he's got to forfeit that back pay. If not, then that provides a strong incentive to go AWOL and desert and not have to carry out your assigned duties, in exchange for getting a big windfall when you return.

” PC is a curse which has damaged the territory once known as “the United States of America” almost to the point of obliteration.”

The territory is still there and will always be there - what’s been obliterated are its values.

Bergdahl is a slgi9ht of hand here. The real issue is that Obama released 5 major terrorists that are active against the US and used Bergdahl as the excuse to do it.
