The American Sniper culture war

‘American Sniper’ gives hope that the America we know will win out in the end.

“As much as the left would like you to believe it, Chris Kyle was not a bloodthirsty warmonger; he was a noble warrior who fought to defend his fellow troops, watched over the lives of his brothers, and advanced the cause of (eventual) peace. This is where the true success of ‘American Sniper’ comes to light.” – Pete Hyseth, CEO of Concerned Veterans of America and an Iraq combat veteran

With the record-shattering success of the Clint Eastwood-directed movie ‘American Sniper’, we are all experiencing the fault lines of American culture. The vast majority of Americans have praised the movie.

Having watched it with my son, I personally witnessed an entire theater of moviegoers do something amazing. At the end – during the final credits when most moviegoers usually leave (and while actual footage of Chris Kyle’s funeral procession played out on the big screen) – viewers sat in respectful silence. After the realism and emotion of combat, culminating with a family torn by war and then tragedy, nobody spoke as we exited the theater. It was inspiring.

America is a raw, open wound and we are finally getting a glimpse of it.

I left a little early when the theater was still dark, just before the lights went on because I was snottering a bit and I wanted the people to think that I had a full bladder.

Communists have steadfastly worked to destroy the American value system. It’s gotten to the point that about half the people are worthless parasites, drones who live a good life on the labor and sometimes blood of the rest of us.This will not continue much longer.

By its nature, communism feeds on itself and the result is like a chronic wasting disease. Communists never understand this.

The firestorm over this film is absurd. I Think of the scores, hundreds of films from the 40s, 50s, 60s, about American heroes that I grew up watching. Can you imagine if someone put down Chesty Puller the same way these nibs today are putting down Chris Kyle? They’d be thrown out of the theater into a gutter to cool off. And rightly so.

History teaches, that when two incompatible belief systems reach the point of critical mass, as you rightly point out is near the precipice, the inevitable consequences are beyond horrific and ugly.

I do not think a majority of current Americans will endure what is coming without total surrender to whatever iron-fisted promise is made to ‘return the country to normal’.

Neighbors will betray one another for a mere promise of bread when such times run rampant.

Well, to be fair, the credits were a little different than typical credits. They had two parts. During the first, the credits were displayed over images of Kyle's funeral and felt somewhat like a continuation of the movie. The audience I saw the movie with stayed through that part. Then the images ended, the screen went black, and rest of the credits rolled, at which point the audience left.

By all means, see it! I’ve been a three generation military family member all my life. This movie had my eyes suddenly watering, etc. The entire movie theater exited slowly and in complete silence as the movie ended.

Just got back from seeing it. Very well done and very respectful of an American Hero. I’ll admit I got a littler choked up at the end. The theater was very quiet at the end.

You got that right.

I just saw this movie. I'm encouraged knowing that so many Americans like it. There's hope for America, but we must find a way to come together as an organized force.
