"Some ammunition that was previously exempted as primarily intended to be used for sporting purposes, specifically 5.56mm constituent projectiles of SS109 and M855 cartridges, will again be regulated as armor piercing ammunition. Except as provided by law, no person may manufacture or import such ammunition, and manufacturers or importers may not sell or deliver such ammunition. ATF will maintain the exemption for 30-06 M2AP cartridges
Proposed change to ATF regulatory framework for "armor piercing" ammunition.

“So I give them a minor nod for not making new law up out of whole cloth.”
But, why are they doing this now?
domestic and foreign
Isn’t 30.06 or .308 the kind of ammo that can penetrate. How rediculous are they going to get?
Congress is bypassed yes, but this probably could not happen without the consent or connivance of the socalled “leadership’ in Congress
I think i'll still be able to defend myself pretty well with that bit of knowledge.
m855 is usually 2-4 moa...absolutely fine for milspec ammo and real world shtf engagements. Its not target ammo, never was designed for that. It’s designed for +300meter penetration. Under 100m...m193 higher velocity does the job. Also depends on the rifle/twist but m855 is not bad stuff if you know what your doing with it.
TC Contenders have been chambered for .223 for decades.
I don’t know the exact reading of the law but just about every rifle round has been available in handguns for a very long time.
The 5.56 was available in the Thompson Center handgun long before 1986.
The AR type handguns are pretty much a joke in my opinion tho I admit I have never fired one.
My husband says it’s very inaccurate. —
Can’t even hit a LARGE fish with it.
Someone always beats me to it.
There's a big artery right there. Hit it and the person will bleed out in minutes.
Sure, but (even mentioned in the copy) single-shot pistols didn’t count.
Semi automatic pistols in .30 carbine have been around also long before 1986. They weren’t very good but that is not the question.
The .30 carbine is also a fmj military round.
Seems like a good 2nd Amendment case could be made on this topic: there is no distinction nor requirement under the Second Amendment that arms be used or required “for sporting purposes.”
The Second Amendment is not about deer hunting (sorry American Hunter) nor about punching holes in paper. It’s about defending our freedoms from governments such as we have right now.
Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping!
To get onto The Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping List you must threaten to report me to the Mods if I don't add you to the list...
We're armed so you don't have to be...
We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that weve set. Weve got to have a civilian national security force thats just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded. Barack Hussein Obama, 7/2/2008They dont call it a Civil Defense force, that would imply we need (or perhaps that we deserve) defense. The official name is National Civilian Community Corps.
I think of it as the NatCCC, or more simply, as the NatCs...
It’s gone everywhere—from what I’ve read about the round and what my Marine brother says about it, it’s not even that good, nor AP.
Still, they are pretty particular about Contenders being “handguns”.
I'd just left Oswald's image pages. Shown on a gurney, Oswald has a wound in the left abdomenat the bottom edge of the rib cage. The detective holding Oswald's left arm just missed getting his hand shot.

“withdrawing the exemption will not place individuals in criminal possession of armor piercing ammunition.”
“However, with few exceptions, manufacturers will be unable to produce such armor piercing ammunition, importers will be unable to import such ammunition, and manufacturers and importers will be prohibited from selling or distributing the ammunition.”
It’s not a ban. You can still have the ammunition you just
cant get or make anymore and you cant sell what you have.
Guns will be next. You can have your right to have a gun
you just cant buy, build or sell them. If that isn’t an
end-run around the bill of rights nothing is.
