I agree with you. The licensing is definitive, in my opinion. I guess the trouble comes when you have someone caring for 1-2 kids who doesn’t need to be licensed.

Really?!

Can’t you see the appeal? If anyone deals with you the interaction will be governed (at least in theory) by your own rules, with almost endless customization including endless re-litigation if you like, what could possibly go wrong?!

The clauses (common in HOA agreements) that subjects the signor to future revisions is firmly against the wisdom of our forebears who would counsel us to never sign something that hasn’t been read. You can’t read what hasn’t even been written yet.

Not a conservative idea, it appears that these HOAs are being inflicted on people against their will, Investopia cites an example of only 60% being able to inflict it on 100% of property owners. Someone else in this thread had the same gripe. So this is NOT always a case of being free to buy into one or not as it turns out.

You can’t read and comprehend, so I’ve had quite enough of you. Enjoy your obsession over the HOAs - I hope they don’t come capture you against your will. Though it will probably happen.

Maybe try understanding liberty and responsibility in your next life.

Greece NY, 94.6% White! Sounds like a real haven for illegal immigrants. Not very hard to get along with a populace who shares the same values.

The brutal winters keep 99% of the riff-raff away. Not many "south of the border" types can deal with 25 below wind chill.
We also have very limited bus service ... not by chance.

I suffered through reading that poorly written, disjointed and paranoid article (blog post).

I regret telling you this, but it read like someone recently off their meds or needing to be on them, someone armed with a Thesaurus but with no idea how to use one.

I particularly liked this gem:

“Remnants of Agenda 21 are destroying the peace of neighborhoods and towns in South Florida. All along the coast, citizens and local governments are being traumatized by the All Aboard Florida project that seeks to run at least 32 trains up and down the coastline, transporting huge containers of world trade freight from Miami-Fort Lauderdale open sea ports into the entertainment meccas in Orlando for a Disney-like, Neverland of noise, up-down draw bridges, flashing train lights, blaring horns, you fill in the rest. Now, residents in gated communities along the 1-95 corridor in SoFla, thinking lucky us, are realizing the encroachment damage being done to them by large HOA takeovers of their private property.”

M’Kay….”trauma”, “transporting huge containers of world trade freight”, “open sea ports”, “meccas”, “Neverland of noise”, “flashing train lights”….and this all relates to Agenda 21 and HOA’s how?

The All Aboard Florida project, while it may end up a boondoggle, it is actually a high speed passenger rail line not a freight line. While the project, which is privately owned and operated by the way, “applied for $1.6 million Railroad Rehabilitation and Improvement Financing (RRIF) loan, which is administered by the Federal Railroad Administration, in late 2014, the company announced it had applied for a $1.75 billion private activity bond allocation, with proceeds from the bond sale substantially reducing or replacing entirely the amount of the RRIF loan request.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Aboard_Florida

But you know; Agenda 21 and HOA’s and trains; yes I just love it when an “evil” plan comes together / s

I had to look up the author, Suzanne Eovaldi. It turns out she is a “retired tenured college English professor, having taught full time at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, IL for 26 years.”

Hum. Perhaps Suzanne Eovaldi or more precisely, her former English students should concern themselves more with trauma of the college “tenure system” than with the “Agitprops” of the HOA’s. Just saying.

I was in one where there was no common property & the homes were spread out. After 6 years of HOA fights, we voted to disband the HOA by an 85:15 margin.

Bravo!

When I didn't like what our HOA was doing I easily got myself elected as an Officer and several of us stopped the bad stuff, collected the arrears and using these funds repaired the pool and completely refurbished the three tennis courts. Also the monthly bills were paid on time once we had the Treasurer arrested for embezzlement.

Rather then just bitching people like us got involved and fixed things.

If you live in one of these communities, you need to be an active member of the HOA. If you don’t actively participate, the kooks will take over.

Unfortunately the anti-HOA's on this thread are the people who show up at the meetings and bitch then in the same breath tell the hardworking board members that they are "too busy" to get involved.

They always mention they have a job and a family as if every board member doesn't have those things too.

“I purposefully bought in an UNRESTRICTED neighborhood in Houston, close to downtown. It’s becoming grossly yuppified, with TWO $400,000 condos occupying the 50’ wide lot where ONE house stood. Time to move before they vote in an HOA. Thank God it takes 75% to get it in. Buy in a HOA area and you’ve invited poisonous snakes to move in with you. They suck.”

Sounds like if you had had an HOA they couldn’t have built the two condos ...

“They build them to maintain control while they build out the subdivision ,, typically when the developer gets down to 51% of voting ownership they introduce a change to the subd. plans ,, cancel a park or two that buyers were counting on ,, cancel a community pool... That sort of fraudulent behavior. “

I just moved from a HOA in Texas. We took over and their have been NO cancelations or changes. In fact, the HOA was instrumental in blocking a nearby apartment complex.

Not changes or cancellations in the HOA I live in now, either.

“Your using the fact that your neighborhood is 90% Republican to prove what exactly, that they are conservative? Because Republican and Conservative don’t go together my FRiend.”

I haven’t interviewed each and every. Just going on the register voter logs. However, it tends to correlate that they are NOT liberal ...
