Our vet advised us that most male cats don't drink enough water which creates urinary tract problems such as you described. Since there's really no way to force the cat to drink more, she suggested -- as she did for her male cat -- purchasing a drinking water fountain (about $50 at Petco for a small plastic unit).

The cat loves it and is drinking noticeably more water -- only problem is he enjoys splashing the water on the kitchen rug as it gurgles out of the small trough into the recirculation basin!

The unit is easy to maintain and is not much bigger than a food dish. You should check it out.

With the Hills Science Diet dry food, I add water to it to soften the nuggets....That way she's getting the water in her food as well as whatever she drinks out of her bowl......
