Rule Number One is situational awareness.

Why people wear earbuds and all sorts of distractions in public places is a complete mystery to me.

The more "diverse" the area the more I stay attuned to what is happening around me...

Yep. And if something doesn't look right, cross the street or just reverse direction, if possible. Oprah Winfrey (of all people) once said something along the lines of: "My safety comes before your hurt feelings".

She's right. And it's a lesson all young people should learn.

Diversity is a b*tch. It kills millions of Americans each year.

Philadelphia (despite the the attitude of it’s city government) is still in Pennsylvania, a shall-issue CCW state.

Wish I had money for a ScH trainer.

Yep...completely understood on (thank goodness) Pennsylvania CCW.
I was speaking in general on why many people opt not to carry weapons.

Specially privileged minority group member attacks Whitey? Then it will disappear from the news.

Let me guess....Sons of Obama?

Black Males make up less than 6% of the population, yet they commit 50% of crimes, including murder and “gun” crimes.

We don’t have a gun problem. We have a pavement ape problem.

2/3rds of gun deaths are suicides.
Of the remaining gun deaths, 3/4ths are committed by Blacks.

Throw out that demographic, and we have about 4,600 gun deaths per year in the US out of over 300 Million people.

Yet the libs keep talking about how dangerous guns are.
It’s not the guns that are dangerous, it’s your out of control constituents that are the problem.

But they blame guns, the NRA, white men, etc.

Everyone except the people committing 75% of gun crimes.

Not so in Pennsylvania. The Castle Law in effect even protects a lawful self defensive shooter from civil legal suits.

I walk my small West Highland Terrier every night after a long day at work. It helps me unwind. I also carry a CZ 75B with 12 rounds of .40 cal hollow point. An encounter with me and my dog probably would have resulted in a different outcome.

Mine is a Puggles, and normally it's a S&W 357 Magnum with a speed loader, but it's the same principle.

My neighborhood is considered safe, and I intend to help keep it that way.

I know of at least one other person that carries when dog walking {or any walking} in my area.
With at least two NRA members walking while armed in my neighborhood, unless some radical uprising occurs, we should be OK.

"youngish white people"

I read a story by one of those types a year or so ago. He had some sort of journalist job and he moved his wife and kids to some large city near an area with a lot of crime. He stated that he knew it was a little risky moving his family to that spot, but he was loath to move elsewhere because there were so many good ethnic restaurants in the area!!

Who chooses to live in a high crime area simply for the availability of different kinds of ethnic food? Only liberals do demented things like that.

"Get with your parent and turn yourself in before we come and get you," warned Clark during a news conference Thursday afternoon.

Parent. Singular. They don't even bother to use the plural anymore. They know better.

It's getting to be that one can tell a person's skin color by their first name.

"Binged" him - Sure enough.

21 foot rule- never forget the 21 foot rule.

Even 21 feet may be pushing the envelope - I'm 62 and stay fit so I can cover that distance in 1 second (was a time when I could do close to 30 feet in that time from a dead stop, and a tad over 30 feet after actually moving, but not anymore).

Please Don't Shoot Me

I won't say I'll never utter those words. I hope I'm using them as a distraction while pulling my own weapon.

Since I am a "privileged" White Racist given to profiling I would most likely have my weapon at the ready when confronted with three 40 point Urban Utes before I ever saw their gun(s).

Like Leaning Right said, situational awareness is rule #1. Like sun Tzu said, know yourself and know your enemy. That is what situational awareness is at its most basic level. Example: if I’m walking across a dark empty parking lot and I observe individuals approaching me. I am going to become responsive well before they get within 21 feet. I’m going to prepare to defend myself. The shirt or coat concealing my firearm is going to be moved out of the way. My hand is going on the firearm. and I’m going to maneuver to disrupt their plan of attack, to keep them more than 21 feet away from me, and to force them to reveal their ill intent outside of 21 feet. The situation would be much different in broad daylight with witnesses all over the place.
