LOL, I've read and seen all of it, and I can tell you that the story is compelling - but not for everyone. It's definitely not for kids.
My biggest concern - from a literary standpoint - is that they started making the show before the story was actually finished. And so I wonder how much of the written story has been affected by the show.
Concerning the books; the last installment was published in 2011. If I had to place a bet, it would be that the next (last?) book - The Winds of Winter - will never be finished...
Sandor Clegane is The Hound’s actual name.
He is of the House Clegane, and his brother is Gregor Clegane, a.k.a The Mountain That Rides. He is the knight that crushed Prince Oberyn’s skull in his hands during Tyrion’s trial by combat, and also the person responsible for The Hound’s disfiguring facial burns.
What happened with Arya Stark and The Hound is very interesting. The Hound had been on her list for some time. In the books however, there came a time when it seemed that the Hound had been removed from her list, yet he was still alive.
We he asked her to kill him, after he had be badly wounded, she declined telling him that he does not deserve death, paraphrasing. She then left him on his own and continued her journey alone.
In the books there are further references to his fate, but it’s nebulous, although am I taking care not to spoil as much as I can, there is a scene that was not shown in the series but is in the books that indicates with a fair degree of certainty that Sandor will return.
Great line. Great episode. Second best to Rainbow Grinch in that one.

I have, in the meantime, noticed a trend from polytheism toward Monotheism.

I LOVED their journey together. It was my favorite part of book 3. I could not wait to arrive at any chapter that contained these two. It really gave insight into The Hound’s Journey from a gray character to something much brighter. I was sad to see Arya leave him too, but then again Arya is pretty darn ruthless.
Even though I was surprised by both, I’d have to say I was more surprised by Lady Stoneheart, and even further surprised that she does not appear to be in the series. With Jamie headed to Dorne with Bronn, it doesn’t seem likely either.
Plus they haven’t really shown enough of Thoros of Myr and what he does in order to be able to explain how lady Stoneheart comes to be.
Excellent! I have been looking for something like that. I have been reading the Kindle versions. I find at times the story and timelines become blurred and I don’t recall what from the books is in the show and vice-versa... Up to this point I have been relying on “A Wiki of Ice and Fire.”
My understanding was that Thoros used the same “technique” that he used for Beric after he was struck down by the Hound.
There are a lot of loose ends that have to be gathered in the next book. And like Jamie & Bronn going to Dorne, I don’t know if the author will have enough strength of conviction to wrestle the plot back to the direction in which he was originally going...
I just read a part in A Dance With Dragons where Brienne of Tarth tells Jaime Lannister that The Hound will kill Arya if he finds her. This is well after Arya leaves The Hound to a supposed lingering death. Unless I am misremembering... I read the passage during a long trans-Atlantic flight, so I might have been in a but of a daze...

Agreed! Her & Snow are my favorite characters (with Tyrion & Brienne vying for 3rd).
I hope in the show that they don't skim over Arya's "training" in Bravos. IMO, that is amoung the most compelling of the all the various story-lines...

Given The authors dawdling, I’m not sure how to proceed; I may start over, or just lay the whole thing down for a while (I’m not wholly impressed at how the show is progressing in season 5. Oh well, nobody asked for my opinion! 8^)
