Jimmy Carter attempted to turn the US into “Metric” in about 1977, by replacing all the miles signs with kilometers, reporting temperatures in Celsius, selling fuel in liters, and generally trying a “ram-down”.

Jimmy was not that popular, and it was soundly rejected back then. But now all the whiskey is sold by metric measure, instead of “fifths” or “magnums”. 750 Milliliters is LESS than the “fifth” it replaced.

Look at the labeling on most of the food you buy. It is listed first in metric, then in ounces.

‘we’re too good to lower ourselves to your level’ to the rest of the world. It’s a ‘stick in their eye’ that breeds hostility and feeds the fires of terrorism.”

It’s how the rest of the world repays us for defeating the Japanese and Germans — You’re welcome, now leave us the “F” alone.

Only 0bama would be able to force this country into SI (The name for the “metric” system.) He would get away with it without criticism. I wish he would do it.

I know this is satire, but only Democrats have the bland stupidity to blithely assume that changing to the metric system is simply a matter of legislation.

Whenever someone comes up with this suggestion, I never hear them mention the cost of all the changes in tooling. It's hard to find 13mm steel plate rolling mills in this country. How many machines are calibrated in inches? Every manufacturing line in the country would have to be replaced. I wonder why that little fact always seems to slip through the cracks?
