Absolutely correct. Thank you.

I'm not so sure the Yankee attitude today of siding against the Confederacy is because they "CARE", as it is more about their denial of their role in SLAVERY. Transfer of GUILT is what this is about. (but that is the Norm for them)

As I understand it, Lincoln would never have had any volunteers in the Union if his real purpose had been been branded fight for "Slavery", they were lied to and told it was about the Union (which only meant, if we lose the South we lose all our $$$$$).

Then he had the nerve after Sherman to come back and seek unity and forgiveness from the south, after allowing carpet baggers to steal all they could, aka the RIOTS of today. War for the good of the Union, my a$$$.

And the gracious hospitable Southern people did forgive and move on, they rebuilt from what was destroyed out of envy and hatred. That Southern graciousness is the Confederate Pride in a nutshell.

I beg to differ. The battle is not about arrogance; rather it is a deliberate attack, by those who deny Western values, on those rooted Americans who most clearly understand the reasoning behind the Fifth Commandment; who most clearly respect the multi-generational Constitutional purpose laid out in the Preamble to the Constitution--that is, "securing the Blessings of Liberty," to the Founders & their posterity.

This is America's life or death issue, between her heritage & her local, would be Jacobins; between those who honor tradition, Western values, those lines of descent, and the domestic egalitarian/collectivists (ideological Communists) who despise that tradition, values & lines of descent.

We are either going to wake up, or we can expect our equivalent of a November, 1917, Bolshevik moment. Anyone who will simply pause and consider the rapid acceleration of ever more ridiculous demands; ever more excessive violence against traditional Police Departments; ever more obvious efforts to stifle both dissent & religious expression; should appreciate that those on the Left are acting to a long-term purpose, and truly see their moment at hand.

Note: My family fought for the South. My GGGrandfather was killed by a yankee at Appomattox.

I had ancestors who fought on both sides. I grew up in Idaho, far away from the simmering bitterness that this issue still creates. The lingering resentment 150 years later mystifies me.

I wasn’t talking about why the war was fought, frankly. I was talking about the insane arrogance of those nesting rats and their condescending attitudes that have built up in its aftermath.

Frankly, rednecks and southerners are more prone to laughing at themselves than at nesting Yankee rats. You won’t find many NYC comedians that denigrate its denizens without somehow balancing it out with “good ole redneck” bashing.

Take it how you want to. I don’t care. And I don’t care about the “reasons” you people still cling to. Your compatriots are more bigoted and racist than we are.

There’s really no logical reason liberals want to attack the flag and the Confederacy other than it makes them feel bad.

Partially right, partially wrong. For some liberals, yes, it does make them feel bad...collective guilt for what they feel are wrongs of our past sinful society. But for the more nefarious and insipid, it’s about erasing American history that began long ago by the victors of the war. Since the War of Northern Aggression (and I’m a Yankee and I refer to it as that) was lost, there has been a slow, but lately, rapidly increasing, movement to erase all vestiges of the war, and more importantly, what it was really about. The issues of slavery and economy notwithstanding, the war was about the rights of sovereign states to determine their own courses of action and the way they wished to live. This country was formed by individuals who simply wanted to be left alone and to live their lives as free people away from any form of monarchy and tyranny. The federal government is supposed to derive it’s power from that which is granted by the several states to do only exactly what the preamble of the Constitution says. But the age old story is that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Man desires power, and those that believe in strong central government (re: power) did not see it that way. It is an age old struggle. Like it or not, a strong central government, though saying provides for liberty and freedom for all, only provides for freedom and liberty for those that agree with the policies of those in charge. All others are marginalized, divided, diminished, called “kooks” and “extremists” (sound familiar?)and the only way for a government to continue to gather more power is to either remove or vilify (or both?) any symbols, signs, literature, etc. of the “opposing” view. That is what is happening right before our eyes.

It has been said, all societies move left, they just move left at different rates of speed. Presently, the United States, such as it is, is on the downside of an icy hill with greased skids. Can it be slowed? Yes. Can it be stopped? Well, as history shows, I fear not. As was widely predicted, not only calls for the removal of all vestiges of the Civil War south being removed to the dustbin of history, but even calls for the removal of the U.S. Flag. This is the slippery slope that knee jerk reactions of liberals and the weak spines of conservatives leads to. As the culture and heritage of the United States is continually watered down with unfettered illegal immigration of those, for the most part in my opinion, that do not care one wit about the culture of the great country they have entered, and liberal causes that “feel good”, but have absolutely no substantive effect, are enacted, the United States that was once, will be no more. Oh, there will be a United States, but it will not be anything that our founding fathers envisioned and the concepts of freedom and liberty will merely be fond terms discussed in the halls of power.

It’s not real. It’s just part of the culture. Think of it as being like professional wrestling. We say we hate the Iron Sheik but in reality, it’s just a game.

A friend who moved here from NJ once told “I hated living in the South until I learned to just lighten the **** up”. When I worked at Sara Lee in Winston-Salem, NC, the company (based in Chicago) added “Regionism” to “Racism, Sexism, etc”. Even the Yankees from the NE thought it was ridiculous but they hated the Chicago people anyway.

I understand your sentiment and would normally be prone to agree with you if I actually thought that most of them had the actual intelligence to do it deliberately with some ulterior motive. In reality, to me, it isn’t largely that. Just a collective self-indulged malaise where they project all their personal failures, faults and unpleasant circumstances off on some racist bugaboo redneck southerner.

The issue of state secession is serious and goes to the core of this republic. It shouldn’t mystify anyone.

I tried giving her some help:

The North, through tariffs and excises, attempted to turn the South into a captive market for its goods, and a captive source of raw materials for its industries. This is called mercantilism and is what drove the original 13 Colonies to rebel again Great Britain.

Rather than put up with this, the South seceded. This was lawful; there is nothing in the Constitution preventing a state from seceding. Before you say otherwise, the lawfulness of secession was taught at West Point before the Civil War. There is a reason so many West Point graduates ended up on the side of the South.

The South was already the Federal government's cash cow, contributing over 70% of the revenues to the Treasury. With the loss of these revenues, the South's control of the mouth of the Mississippi, and the South's plans for MUCH lower tariffs and excises (10%), the North saw a future with empty treasuries, empty harbors, and grass growing in the streets of New York and Boston.

THIS is the cause for which the North went to war. Not slavery. Lincoln himself said he didn't care one way or another. Slavery was a propaganda issue, pure and simple. Its primary utility was to prevent the UK or France from entering the war on the side of the South.

Confederate Pride comes from the fact that, despite being out numbered, blockaded, and inferior in manufacturing capacity, we held out for years, and almost made a go of it. The South stood for States Rights and stood against an all-powerful Federal Government.

And, as the burgeoning growth of our modern police state shows, The South Was Right.

Remember when the media went insane when Bush said ‘you are either with us or against us’. He meant the world obviously but the pro-regressive left means Americans.
They mean you except our version of history or else there is no telling what we will do. Look how they destroyed Baltimore.
See how the issue of race has been pounding away. Out right lies perpetuated like ‘hands up’ and on and on.
They are expert at taking a microscopic event, even Roof was not even close to the worst mass murderer by far, and they blow it up until Walmart and Ebay pull are pulling a flag from their stores. Why? because its a distraction from what they are really doing.
Its just a bonus that they are creating North/South divisions. Bonus distractions and confusion.
By the time this “flag issue” has run its course the evil leftist and the sell-out RINOs will have accomplished whatever evil they intented all along.
Until the next sabotage then they will drum up another false event all over.

I think that you are confusing the chanting chorus at Leftist rallies, for those who actually select American heritage phenomena for attack.

Both Obama & Hillary studied Leftist agitation & purpose from Marxist tacticians. The use of hatred & envy as a weapon in promoting Leftist revolution is standard.

1. Go back and re-read Rooster Redux’s post. Apparently you missed something.

2. “Southern Status” is claimed by birthright and stolen by trendsetters. It’s the actual incentive to learn who your ancestors were and discover what they contributed to who you are. I’ve got rural dirt farmer kin who served in regiments in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana who drew Confederate pension. They didn’t sit on the sidelines.

3. Tennessee was the DMZ. Any self respecting southerner can explain that to you. You’re just not talking to the right people.

4. You carpet baggers STILL CONTINUE to come down here when you’re not wanted constantly complaining about how slow everyone is and how stifling the heat is. You serve no purpose here. Go home.

5. The DEMOCRAT “Flag Charmers” just took advantage of pre-existing traditions and values and twisted it to their own advantage. A technique they continue to this day. They just decided the South outlived their limited usefulness and tapped the anger of another political group. Southern Pride existed well before 1861 and continues to this day. Your basic misunderstanding of this premise exposes massive holes in your comments.

6. Don’t misidentfy and true Southerner from a Dukes of Hazzard wannabe. I place these folks in the same category as all those northerners running around in Notre Dame shirts but couldn’t find South Bend on a map.

I am a direct descendant of men who left Europe to come to America in indentured servitude. Who cut out a life in the Tennessee wilderness prior to the end of the 18th Century. Men who led expeditions to meet Jackson in New Orleans in 1812 and who volunteered for every conflict this nation has fought since that time.

I am overwhelmingly proud to be a Man of the South.

I hold no grudges toward the opinions of others despite my personal beliefs as to how completely wrong many seem to be.

.... And I am sick and tired of being vilified because of it.

Ever heard of “Northern Pride”? Me neither.

Because regional bigotry is so endearing.

Most "northerners" (meaning anyone who doesn't drink the rebel koolaid) believe in American pride instead.

I agree that there is a definite motive as you state.

However none of that could succeed if the proclivities of their ignorant followers weren’t so disposed to believe and endorse them.

You don’t have to be a scholar to recognize this and you don’t have to go back 150 years to understand it.

I get offended when I see cars go by with offensive and obscene words on their bumper stickers. I worry about the families with kids who have to explain not only what they mean but also why some ignoramus is allowed to display.

Again, my point is not that we should ban things merely because they might offend but that we all need to be considerate of others’ sensibilities. Just because I don’t think something is hurtful does not diminish the fact someone else might be hurt by my words and actions. I, by no means, advocate giving up our hard-earned rights or becoming a wish-washy, anything goes liberal type but I do know that I was brought up to consider the impact my actions have on others, even if unintended.
