The Confederate Flag Two Minutes Hate has reached a new level of stupidity - Apple is removing all games that depict a Confederate flag. I haven't weighed in on the subject of the Confederate Flag issue since almost every conceivable angle on it has pretty much been written. I'm pretty much in the "It belongs in a museum" camp that a lot of conservatives have expressed. I do think that moves to ban its private ownership and scrub this flag from society are wrong, though. I understand all of the con arguments and think they have merit. Here is my take on the pro argument.
Most Southerners didn't own slaves. They also have far greater ties to the Civil War than the rest of us. There is a great book called Confederates in the Attic. that I highly recommend. The most telling thing I learned from the book is that while in the north between 2 and 3 out of 10 people have an ancestor that fought in the Civil War, in the south that number rises to 6 out of 10. For many Southerners the Civil War wasn't about slavery, rather it was based on the stories passed down via their grandparents about how they were just looking to defend their land from an invading army. This isn't to discount black Americans who have had stories passed down from their grandparents about what it was like being a slave, but my point is that the Confederate flag isn't as clear cut as the radical left's talking points. But this isn't why I wrote this post.
I think it's great that lefties are ready to take such a principled stand against a symbol of treason against the United States. As it happens there is an act of treason that involves a very public figure right now! What would you say if I told you...

We need to get Ebay, KMart or Walmart, etc. to ban the sale of Che Guevera shirts and stickers, the Cuban Communist Flag, and the Flag of Iran, Red China, No. Korea and Russia since all are sponsors of “State terrorism” and aggression against their neighbors.
Also no statues allowed of mass murderers/advocates of, such as Karl Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Ho Chi Minh, Che, etc. in the US or US possessions, or they must put up next to them statues of Hitler, Himmler and Eichmann.
Equality of free expression is a two way street, comrades and libs. However, if you stand in the middle of a two-way street, you are going to get hit from both sides, and deservedly so.
We can have a lot of fun in the newspapers and on talk shows using this countering approach re the Confederate Battle Flag (which I do not like but would not try to banish from history).

Me either. I actually came up with a GREAT conspiracy theory for it, though. If "they" knew Obamacare would be upheld, and gay marriage too, then "they" might have wanted to remove THE symbol of fighting federal oppression in American history - the Confederate flag. After all, it literally represents Civil War. So if you think of it that way, this could remove a rallying point for national anger being expressed stupidly. And so, though in itself it's historically a false target and completely idiotic, the removal of it as quick, effective flash point would actually be a good thing right now.
The civil war was not a civil war technically, as no one was trying to overthrow the US government. It was really a war of Independence, just like the USA revolutionary war or the Texas War of Independence from Mexico. The CSA set up its own President, congress, branches of government, printed its own money, claimed independence and broke away. All flags in a war of independence are a symbol of treason in that respect. I don’t think the UK suddenly gets butt hurt over seeing the American flag though at one time it was a flag of treason.

What about any businesses affiliation with Planned Parenthood? Many big businesses like to donate to liberal causes such as Planned Parenthood.
Is there any kind of precedent for this & there is no redress for the people? I’d think a state of emergency would have needed to be declared to act this quickly & this absolutely.

Yes, this is a big, organized effort. Media coordinating with government, and probably federal government leaning hard on state and local officials (and maybe companies, too). Unprecedented.
I can’t count high enough to count the things that have occurred under the Obama regime that were unprecedented.
This is why I am convinced this was all planned in advance and ready to implement.
That Lee quote at the bottom is quite apropos considering this situation that we face. Would that we all had this mentality when fighting our battles—big and small, political or personal. I am tired of people capitulating to the ever-shifting sands of modern “culture” and it’s time we collectively put our foot down and take the wheel away from those who seek to drive us off the cliff.
