Cuba Just Eliminated HIV Transmission between Mother & Baby

Thirty years ago, HIV was a death sentence. But not any more. The World Health Organisation has just confirmed that Cuba has become the first country in the world to effectively eliminate mother-to-baby transmission of HIV. Notably, they also state that they have eliminated the transmission of syphilis.

Director general of the WHO, Margaret Chan, stated that the advancements made as a result of this breakthrough simply cannot be overstated, calling it, “one of the greatest public health achievements possible.” She told the press, “this is a major victory in our long fight against HIV and sexually transmitted infections, and an important step towards having an AIDS-free generation. It shows that ending the AIDS epidemic is possible.”

Ultimately, eliminating this form of transmission comes as a result of a series of procedures. First, there is better testing and treatment for expecting parents. Then, there are preventative measures, such as bottle-feeding and C-sections. Additionally, if both mother and child receive an antiretrovirals, then the chance of transmission drops to just 1%. Lastly, and this is of great importance, nearly all women have access to preventative care, treatment, and basic medical necessities.

My point would be that I don’t care how many gays get aids from another gay. I don’t give a crap about that. I only care about the collateral damage to innocent victims.

You cannot contract AIDS. the “S” stands for syndrome which is not a disease of any sort.

You can contract the HIV virus. By itself it is fairly benign. You can also contract one of many forms of a STD and some other illnesses which the CDC uses to define AIDS. AIDS is the combination of being sick from an STD and having the HIV virus.

Dying from Syphils is not AIDs. Dying HIV positive from the flu is not AIDs. Dying from Syphilis and being HIV positive is AIDS.

Homosexual males, who do not have sex with women, would not be a threat to anyone other than other homosexual males. So it really is the ones that go both ways, which then put others outside the homosexual community at risk. Unless the homosexuals were intravenous drug users, and then again it puts others, who belong in neither of those communities, at risk.

While we know that people, both men & women, who engage in that high risk form of sexual activity become susceptible due to the likelihood of tearing the skin.

However, we do not know if men not engaging in that sexual activity would mean that AIDS would not be present. Would the same not hold true for men having that form of sex with a woman? I would think so. I also think the sexual revolution has played a large role as well. More people engaging in casual sex with multiple partners is not healthy to a society, for numerous reasons.

Had AIDS been around longer than its first diagnosis, and been killing people for decades? Logic says that is highly possible, and even highly probable. AIDS victims usually succumb to some other ailment because AIDS is the breakdown of the immune system. So people who were dying of other illnesses may have been infected with what we now call AIDS.

Anyway, I think you know that I am building the case, that we cannot say with certainty that the absence of homosexuals equates to AIDS being a non-issue.

Just to be clear, men & women engage in that risky form of sexual activity also. So it could just as easily have happened without any homosexual involvement at all.

I think we all agree, those engaged in this discussion, that children becoming victims as a result of risky practices by one or more of those who participated in a child's conception, is horrible.

It’s the anal sex part that spreads it. And where it is probably true that it occurs sometimes between a man and a woman, it would almost always be initiated by a bi male.

If a hetero man go out and sticks his organ in a pile of dog doo before banging the “old lady” you would get the same results.

No sympathy there for him either... (or for her if she is aware if his perversions)

To All: You can sure tell how they won the queer wars, it was through the use and abuse of the English language.

The proper terminology should have been “I don’t care how many QUEERS/HOMO’S get AIDS from another QUEER/HOMO”.
Language really is important; when was the last time any one saw a truly HAPPY/GAY QUEER/HOMO?
Get out your oldest dictionary and look up the definitions.

Or perhaps other women. Doesn't have to be dog poo, or even perverted. But a risky activity of some sort is performed.

They may be swingers. They may not even be married, and have agreed to see others when they so desire.

It could be a lot of things, not just bi-sexual men. One or both could be intravenous drug users. Could be the woman is the sole drug user, and the husband/boyfriend gets infected from her. Perhaps the woman is the one who is engaging in sex with other males, with her male main partner unaware of her activity. There are even more scenarios I am not even mentioning, but I think you get the idea.

The Bible says: the sins of the father will be visited upon the children. In other words, actions of parents most likely will result in negative consequences for their children.

Again, it is tragic when anyone, child or adult, who gets hurt because someone whom they trust has deceived them.
