Thirty years ago, HIV was a death sentence. But not any more. The World Health Organisation has just confirmed that Cuba has become the first country in the world to effectively eliminate mother-to-baby transmission of HIV. Notably, they also state that they have eliminated the transmission of syphilis.
Director general of the WHO, Margaret Chan, stated that the advancements made as a result of this breakthrough simply cannot be overstated, calling it, one of the greatest public health achievements possible. She told the press, this is a major victory in our long fight against HIV and sexually transmitted infections, and an important step towards having an AIDS-free generation. It shows that ending the AIDS epidemic is possible.
Ultimately, eliminating this form of transmission comes as a result of a series of procedures. First, there is better testing and treatment for expecting parents. Then, there are preventative measures, such as bottle-feeding and C-sections. Additionally, if both mother and child receive an antiretrovirals, then the chance of transmission drops to just 1%. Lastly, and this is of great importance, nearly all women have access to preventative care, treatment, and basic medical necessities.

The biggest AIDS issue is not mother passing it on to baby. Anybody want to guess who passing to whom that is the biggest issue?
The WHO counts a country as having eliminated mother-to-baby transmissions when the rate of children born with HIV or syphilis is so low that it no longer constitutes a public health problem, which Cuba has done
OK. And what was this magic bullet that Cuber came up with? Sounds like some kneepad work from WHO and Dr Chan. I wonder if Chan had a Che Guevara t-shirt on?
“The biggest AIDS issue is not mother passing it on to baby.”
In my book it is big. Of all of the victims of aids, it is the baby that least deserves it... The next in line would be the female who gets it from a BI male.
This is ridiculous.
Duesberg was right. We won’t live to see him vindicated. But it is so obvious that he was right ...
Refresh my memory please. Who was Duesberg and why is he right?
On the basis of his experience with retroviruses, Duesberg has challenged the virus-AIDS hypothesis in the pages of such journals as Cancer Research, Lancet, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Science, Nature, Journal of AIDS, AIDS Forschung, Biomedicine and Pharmacotherapeutics, New England Journal of Medicine and Research in Immunology. He has instead proposed the hypothesis that the various American/European AIDS diseases are brought on by the long-term consumption of recreational drugs and/or AZT itself, which is prescribed to prevent or treat AIDS. See The AIDS Dilemma: Drug diseases blamed on a passenger virus.
WHO is such a leftist organization, I have little faith in anything they say to be quite honest.
He basically discovered the retrovirus. And he said from Day One that what was attributed to HIV was impossible.
But he was opposed by panic, political correctness, junk science, and billions and billions of $$$.
The scourge of the bath house culture of 30 years ago was drugs, not some mysterious new illness. And the African AIDS crisis was a fraud.
I think you misinterpreted his statement. I think he was trying to say who passes AIDS on in larger numbers than mother to child transmission. I do not believe he was saying that a baby getting it from their mother was not a problem.
Thank you
If the baby tests positive for HIV they probably toss it in the dumpster, then it doesn’t count in the stats.
Those men who go both ways, sexually? They potential infect women, who infect their unborn children, as well as, other males.
As a mom I can’t imagone going through this with my kids, especially since the way I could only contract AIDS is through a blood transfusion. It is for the babies and for those whom innocently contract the disease that I sincerely feel sorry. The biggest issue in AIDS transmission, however, is not those of whom I’ve just written. The biggest AIDS transmission issue is homosexual males. Condoms are at most 88% effective in AIDS prevention. Toss in fumbling fingers and a sphincter muscle and the effectiveness rate drops drastically.
My point was the core issue: homosexual males. Without them the AIDS issue would be a non-issue.
They have a pill that fights HIV now. Hardly anyone is getting it anymore. That is the latest findings by the medical community. The only thing is you have to take the pill for life and it will guarantee that you never get HIV.
I’ve always said the search for an AIDS cure is merely so that gay men won’t have to use condoms anymore.
Pretty easy, actually. Kill the mother and no babies born with HIV.
True. I think you are 100 percent correct because with this pill they are not.
