NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - When Americans line up for salad, you know there must be something special about it.
That's exactly what's happening at the hot new restaurant chain Sweetgreen. It is already being dubbed the "next Chipotle."
Sweetgreen was founded in 2007 by three Georgetown University friends who had a simple vision: make healthy food yummy, affordable and fun.
"Healthy food shouldn't just be for the top 1%," Jonathan Neman, one of the co-founders, told CNNMoney.
He studied abroad in Australia and was frustrated when he returned to the U.S. and felt his affordable meal options were limited. Just a few months after graduation, he and pals Nicholas Jammet and Nathaniel Ru opened the first Sweetgreen....

How is this different from SouperSalad or any of the other salad bars that have been around for about 25 years?
Hmm...first it’s Pink News now it’s rice bowls and salads...what’s going on over there 2cdDiv? :)
>>The elites want us peons eating rabbit food so there’s more Wagyu (Kobe) beef, lobster, sea bass, heritage pork, veal and wild game for them to eat in their posh restaurants and gourmet kitchens.
Yep. The message is always “eat less, consume less, do less, work more” while the Elites do the exact opposite.
I was thinking that I could go here instead of Chipotle until I read that crap about the 1%. I just can’t win. :p
I enjoy your food. Could you please spare me your moral self-righteousness AND your shaky scientific marketing claims?
There’s nothing wrong with a good salad. All those things you list can be used as excellent salad toppings.
"Healthy food shouldn't just be for the top 1%," Jonathan Neman, one of the co-founders, told CNNMoney.IOW, Occutards. Won't be eating there, even if I ever see one. Thanks 2ndDivisionVet..
How is it different? Good question. Do they use organic foods only? Do they grow their own? Do they cater to liberal causes and pay their hired help at least $15 an hour?
As with any other business, the market will indicate whether they can make a go of this. Or if this is so similar to all the soup and salad bar places that there’s no more room for them.
It’s not.
Different name ,promotion etc...
It still is a salad.
And by the way,I think Chipotle is garbage. One cruise through that place and out the door I went.
At no time do I eat at places that preach at me.
They make it for you while you watch and advice. Like Chipotle or Subway. We’ve got a good custom salad place in Tucson, you don’t follow it down the line, but they do chop it up and stir it up real good.
Notice the workers are “peopel of colour” and the customers enjoy white priviledge. I wonder if this company pays its employees $15 per hour.
Vegetables are good. My food eats it all them time.
Are you trying to out-weird pissant or that liberal house wife whose name I can’t recall from way-back-when?
Yep. How is this different from pastoral grazing on the fruits of God's freely supplied earthly bounty? How is this different from harvesting vegetables and animals from your farm and field? Both of which have been around since the time Jacob and Esau.
Serve me your nice food. It's good. I'll pay you. Just shut up.
Maybe you should calm down and re-phrase that because I have no idea what that sentence is trying to ask.
Anu Jain found bugs in her salad and tweeted about it.AWWWWWW
Guess what Anu, bugs and slugs like their greens.
Poofter food...
