TN: Mass Shooting at 2 more Administration Enforced Gun Free Zones in Chattanooga
Gun Watch ^ | 17 July, 2015 | Dean Weingarten

A single gunman appears to have carried out mass shootings at two gun free zones in Chattanooga Tennessee.  The first zone, shown above, has the gun free logo prominently displayed.   The second zone, where four Marines were killed was at the Naval Operations Support Center, several miles away.  From cnn.com:
(CNN)Four Marines were killed when a gunman attacked two military sites in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Thursday, the U.S. Navy said.

The suspected shooter, 24-year-old Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez, is also dead, the FBI said.

An eyewitness, who works at a hair salon next door to the recruitment center, said that the shooter reloaded once or twice and moved the mustang convertable that he was driving at least twice, to shoot from different angles.  She thought the shooting lasted for at least 20-30 seconds.   She said the shooter drove away from the scene and got on expressway 153 almost immediately.

All the deaths were reported at the second location.   Military personnel at military installations are not allowed to carry weapons, except for military police and specific guards.  This policy was reinforced by the Obama administration after the Fort Hood attack.  Until that point, considerable leeway was allowed to military commanders of installations.

Until the orders came down after the Fort Hood attack, people at Yuma Proving Ground, where I worked, were at least able to keep weapons in their vehicles.  After Fort Hood, impeccable sources at YPG  told me that they were forced to change the post regulations by the highest authorities.

So the NOSC is a gun free zone.  It is too bad that the national authorities were not willing to allow these Marines to be "Ready Now. Anytime. Anywhere." as the Naval Reserve Mission statement reads from the screen shot of their facebook page.

Instead, they had to wait on the arrival of a civilian police officer.  It was too late for four of them.

Will "The View" claim that this was a conspiracy to promote the campaigns of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, both of whom have said that we should allow our military to protect themselves on American soil?

Update: The Washington Post is giving a preliminary timeline:
The attack began at 10:45 a.m. when Abdulazeez fired rounds into the windows and door of a local military recruiting office. He then fled in a silver-colored Ford Mustang and drove to a Navy Reserve center several miles away, where he again opened fire and all five fatalities occurred.

Police in Chattanooga said shortly after 1:15 p.m. that the shooting was over and that the gunman was dead.
The timing is reinforced by a statement from a witness at the Naval Operations Support Center (NOSC).  From foxnews.com:
Marilyn Hutcheson, who works at Binswanger Glass just across the street from the center on Amnicola Highway, said she heard a barrage of gunfire around 11 a.m.

"I couldn't even begin to tell you how many," she said. "It was rapid fire, like pow pow pow pow pow, so quickly. The next thing I knew, there were police cars coming from every direction."

That indicates that there was significant time for the Marines to defend themselves, if they had been allowed defensive weapons.

Obviously the “Gun Free Zone” sign needs to be much bigger... and bullet proof!

Murdering Muslim cowardly savages will not wait for police to arrive. Action must be take instantly, like in Garland, to stop the vermin. The would be unarmed victims were lucky there. Having police or security guards present everywhere is not workable. Allowing the soft and symbolic military personnel targets is.

I guess technically he didn’t violate the gun free zone since he didn’t enter the building.

Maybe they should replace the gun with the red circle and hash sign with a ducks in a barrel or shooting gallery symbol.

That photo of three people outside the building...practically the only photo available, and doesn’t even look like a photo. (More like a video game graphic. Why is the shadow of the person on the left not angled and elongated like the other two shadows?)

It’s starting to seem like a limited news blackout. With significant spin. ABC website has an article headlined “Chattanooga Shooter Researched Religious Justification” and when you read the article you find only the spinner justifications, drugs, bipolar, depression, “bad influences in the US.”

Where do readers go to learn exactly where this fiend was when shot by police, or any other details of the incident? Was he still at the second site, or stopped elsewhere? Under what circumstances?

Where are the cell phone videos taken by people in the area, and any eyewitness reports except for one salon operator who couldn’t say much but pow x 5 and cars coming in from every direction?

Either armed citizens need to protect the military recruiting stations or the governors of the states need to get out of their pretend actions of arming National Guard at NG facilities and deploy National Guard or police at recruiting states.

The Republican Governors need to stop faking it and start doing stuff that makes Obama mad like offering armed protection to our military recruiters who are being given none by Washington.

The vid I link to states that the police “gave chase.” Why did it take so long to put him down if there was a hot pursuit?

I think most of the news backout comes from the fact that the first site was a public location and the second was on a military installation.

The picture is reported to have been taken by a cell phone, then posted to social media.

At the second location, the NOSC, the military has control, and probably issue a blanket - no information about the incident will be allowed out - except through official channels.

Information will get out - I have already seen some interesting “hints” - but it will take a while. I suspect that any military member is risking disciplinary action if they are shown to be a source for “unofficial” information at this time.

Almost certainly that vid is incorrect. I heard of intial reports of police “giving chase” from the recruiting station, but they all seem to be based on wishful thinking or assumptions.

The eyewitness of the shooting at the recruiting center says that the shooter left the area fairly rapidly, and immediately got on 153 heading north. She does not mention anything about a pursuit. 153 at that point is essentially a freeway, or close to it. It would be about a 8 minute drive. The recruiting center and strip mall are only a couple of hundred yards from 153, and the NOSC seems to be only about 1/4 mile or so off of the connecting freeway.

The entrance to the NOSC was not guarded.

The “ear witness” that was outside the NOSC says that she heard a rapid number of shots, then shortly after heard sirens as police converged on the NOSC.

If the shooter was being pursued from the recruiting center, the “ear witness” would likely have heard sirens *before* the shooting.

Most likely that the shooter got to the NOSC before the police caught up with him, and had some period of time to start shooting there before the police arrived.

Well, the shadows shown are mostly reflections in the doors. Mirrors can give some funny effects. The short shadow is outside of the reflection.

Not “outside of the reflection” but on a different pane of glass.

Almost certainly that vid is incorrect.

Certainly, not almost, the true timeline is known; but, like Waco, it is not being released. Why?

The vid I link to states that the police “gave chase.” Why did it take so long to put him down if there was a hot pursuit?

It probably wasn't a *hot pursuit.* It's very likely that the witnesses at the strip mall recruiting center gave a description of the color, make and model of the vehicle the shooter was in, maybe even a license number, and they were looking for that fairly distinctive vehicle. Note too that when Martin Luther King was shot in Memphis, there was an almost-immediate report that the gunman had made his escape in a white Ford Mustang. Nobody seems to know exactly where that report came from, and nope, the Memphis PD never made a stop on such a vehicle.

Tennessee law has changed since I lived in Memphis. Now you can carry a loaded rifle or shotgun in your car in Tennessee; when I lived there, carry of a loaded longgun was unlawful, even for those of us with a concealed handgun permit.

Accordingly, I carried two spare guns in my truck: a shoulder-stocked Mauser C96 *broomhandle* pistol, legally a *handgun* under federal law, in case I needed something that would reach out a little farther than the usual handgun/s I carried, [and with a 20-round magazine!] and an M1 Garand rifle...that was not carried loaded, but did have the bolt locked in the *open, ready to reload* position. And with a two-clip M1 carbine magazine pouch on the buttstock.
