You will have to wait for the notification in a few hours. It will have boot.wim file that is required for the installation. If you go to C:\ you will see $Windows.~BT. This is where Microsoft has been downloading about 5.6 Gigs to your drive in preparation for this installation. I think I’m right about this but I am not positive. We’ll know soon enough.

My 8.1 just says Update Reserved. We will let you know when you can download.

I think it downloads in the background but doesn’t actually install until you tell it to.
Be sure to back up anything important — just in case ...

I’ve been on the Windows 10 Insider Preview program since last December. I’ve had various builds, but on the 18th of this monnth overnight it installed the final Windows 10 and would no longer accept new entrants to the Insider Preview opportunity. So I have Win1`0 free. Forever.

And so it begins. I’ll be watching to see how it goes. I’m going to wait for a while before I go for it.

Installed on one system with no problem. 4 more to go, but I’m waiting until it says it’s ready.

Anybody having trouble can search ( MediaCreationToolx64.exe ) and download the tool.
I'm updating right now, 31% in. I hope this Win10 doesn't blow up in my face.

Had a concern about going back to Win 7 - I've been reading on the MS forums and there is some concern that Win 7 keys are "consumed" by 10 and you won't be able use them again. After some reading it seems that if you have a good win 7 key and disc you should be ok to do a fresh install of 7 and be able to activate it. You might have to use the phone service to activate the key.
This could come in handy of you have a hard drive crash or MB failure.
I sure wish MS could have made this process a little simpler.

My son installed Windows 10 on his laptop as soon as it was available and now earlier today his hard drive gave him an imminent failure notice - which has never happened before.
Luckily it is still under warranty (only 6 months old) and we sent it back to HP repair today.
Maybe just a coincidence but I know that I am perfectly happy with Windows 7 :)
