***two short-lived mid-1960s westerns, ***

Some of those short lived westerns were merely summer replacements, done away with when the regular TV season started up again in the fall. Anyone remember TATE, The one armed gunman?

“Tate” is a terrific little short-lived series. Starred the dude who was the Marlboro Man. Had a number of scripts by Harry Julian Fink, who also wrote some of the best “Have Gun Will Travel” episodes. An official DVD set came out of it, released by a company named Timeless, which seemed to specialize in tv-western fare for a while there.

Another extremely good but short-lived western series, “The Dakotas,” from 1963, just recently came out. Probably one of the harshest and most violent of the 1960s westerns.
